Clutter management, Fhi Fho method Bits of clutter - that nail file there, a random glass here, two pens on the table, yesterday's mail. It all adds up to a junky look. One way to tackle small junk is to adopt the motto: Full hands in; Full hands out. According to Homes & Gardens, this is called the Fhi Fho method of continually moving things to places they belong. You don't even have to place the items exactly where they live. Just get them to the right room. Next time you are there, put them away. Even if you don't have hands completely full, just taking one thing to its rightful home, tends to add up when you consider the number of trips you make through your house. When you see something, take it with you and put it away, or at least in the right room. 2025-10-25 23:20:19 | Comments | Printable version

Kentucky Color: A Walkingstick and a Walking Stick II By Billy Joe Fudge Devil's Walkingstick is a small, sapling sized deciduous tree which lives up to its horrible name! However, as with many torturous, dangerous plants, it has some positive attributes. It has a large, showy flower head nestled on top of the bipinnate or tripinnate, leaf-covered ends of main stems. It is truly unique in that it is considered to be one of only three or four tree species with tripinnate leaves. Additionally, these flowers produce black seeds that many birds enjoy. It is a pioneer species, which means it germinates on exposed mineral soil and thrives in both direct and filtered sunlight. This natural condition is often found at the forest edge or where openings are created in the woodland by dead or dying trees. Of course it gets its name, Devil's Walkingstick, because of its thorn covered stem. Anyone, including me, who has ever reached out to grab it to help stabilize their steps at forest's edge is immediately treated to unfathomable, stabbing pain. The stab wounds can often cause discomfort for several days due to inflammation. 2025-10-25 16:11:25 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Kentucky Color by Billy Joe Fudge
Neal gives keynote address at Trustee Appreciation luncheon By Duane Bonifer Lindsey Wilson University adds a lot to Columbia-Adair County, and Columbia-Adair County gives a lot to Lindsey Wilson. That was one of the observations Adair County native Michael T. Neal '88 shared in his keynote address to a packed audience at the university's annual Fall Trustee Appreciation and Endowed Scholarship Luncheon, held on Friday, October 24, 2025, in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center. "Lindsey Wilson University affects every business here locally with the people it has brought into this town -- the real estate offices, the doctor's offices, the pharmacies, the beauticians," said Neal who is a member of the retail senior leadership team at Brown & Brown insurance brokerage. "It affects us all locally in every direction." Neal, who also leads the Brown & Brown of Kentucky office, said that Columbia-Adair County also provides a lot to Lindsey Wilson. Now a Bowling Green resident, Neal cited several of the area residents who shaped his life, including middle-school teacher Lucretia Begley, who was also Lindsey Wilson first lady; middle-school teacher and coach Dean Adams '78, who would go on to become Lindsey Wilson executive vice president; Betty Brown, longtime executive assistant to Lindsey Wilson presidents; and Adair County native and businessman Dan Antle '71. "People from Lindsey Wilson keep popping up in your life," he said.
