Traffic signal at US127/Fruit of the Loom Drive to change From Amber Hale The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will place the traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Fruit of the Loom Drive in Jamestown into flash mode beginning Friday, February 13, 2026, for a 90-day period while traffic patterns are evaluated and public input is gathered regarding the signal's future. Stop signs will be installed on Fruit of the Loom Drive and Herriford Curve Road. Motorists traveling on those routes will be required to stop before entering U.S. 127. Northbound and southbound traffic on U.S. 127 will operate as a continuous through movement. Drivers making left turns from U.S. 127 onto the side streets must continue to yield to oncoming traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the intersection as drivers adjust to the new traffic pattern. KYTC previously conducted a traffic study at this location that showed a decline in traffic volumes, falling short of federal traffic volume thresholds to warrant the continued presence of a signal as driving behaviors have changed over time. To guide decision making, KYTC will conduct an additional study while the signal is in flash mode to observe traffic patterns under stop-controlled conditions and the public is invited to share their comments about the proposed changes with staff. Comments may be submitted by email to KYTC.District8Info@ky.gov through close of business on May 15, 2026. Click here to share, print, or bookmark this article. 2026-02-12 19:47:54 | Comments

Winter Olympics bring back memories The 2026 Winter Olympic Games now underway in Milano-Cortina reminded Doug Beard of how much his late father, Horace (Harry) Beard enjoyed the winter Olympics. In a 2008 newspaper interview, Harry recalled, "I skied at Lillehammer a few times when I went up to Norway with some friends. I've also skied in two other places in Europe where they've had the Winter Olympics, Seefeld, Austria, and Garmisch, Germany." Doug says, "He loved to reflect on his adventures on the slopes throughout Europe and he enjoyed watching the skiing competitions (especially the slaloms) when the winter games aired every four years." Doug shared several keepsake photos of Harry's adventures skiing in Europe, plus the article that he wrote in 2008, shortly after Harry passed. Click title to see them all. Cumberland, Russell superintendents support Pre-K for All From Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - On Monday, February 9, 2026, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that 93 school superintendents representing over half of Kentucky's school districts sent a letter to the General Assembly urging them to fund Pre-K for All in the 2026-2027 budget session. Local officials signing the letter were Kirk Biggerstaff, Superintendent of Cumberland County Public Schools and Michael Ford, Superintendent of Russell County Public Schools. "Education leaders from across the state have stated clearly that Kentucky's students and our families cannot wait: Pre-K access for every 4-year-old must be a priority this session to move our state forward," said Gov. Beshear. "Far too many of our kids are not kindergarten-ready, and we must change that for them, for our families and for our workforce. I want to thank these superintendents and educators for their commitment to our kids and our future." The letter, sent to the General Assembly on Thursday, February 5, 2026, highlights that these leaders are in the classrooms daily and that they know pre-K works. The letter also points out that right now, only 14,000 of Kentucky's 54,000 4-year-olds have access to pre-K. It can be viewed at 20260205_Letter-of-Support-from-Superintendents (PDF).
