LWU to install special parking signs for veterans By Duane Bonifer Military veterans took extra steps to serve their country, and now the Lindsey Wilson University community will help them save a few steps whenever they park their vehicle on the university's A.P. White Campus. Lindsey Wilson will install six special signs on campus that will reserve those parking spaces for veterans. "We can never say 'thank you' enough to the men and women who made so many personal sacrifices to serve our country," said Lindsey Wilson Dean of Students Chris Schmidt. "This is but a small way the Lindsey Wilson community can thank our veterans every day of the year. These signs will also serve as a daily reminder to our students that we get to enjoy so much in our lives because of those who selflessly gave so much to our country through their service." On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the Lindsey Wilson community will honor the region's veterans at the university's annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon. Student Leader of the Blue Raider Band Carlee Huckaby '29 plays key role as drum major of the Lindsey Wilson University Band. By Duane Bonifer At the Lindsey Wilson University football game on Saturday, November 8, 2025, Blue Raider fans will celebrate the careers of 23 students who will take part in their final regular-season game at Parnell Family Stadium. But for Carlee Huckaby '29, things are only beginning. Huckaby has been the drum major this year for the Lindsey Wilson Band. And the nursing major from Columbia says she's excited about what the future holds for the Blue Raider musicians. "This first year has been amazing," said Huckaby, the daughter of Roger and Bobbie Huckaby of Columbia. Huckaby said a big reason for the amazing 2025 fall semester is because of Robert Palmer, who is in his first year as Lindsey Wilson director of bands. "He is so positive, and he always has something nice to say," said Huckaby. "Even if we have something to work on, he's a person who builds us up rather than breaks us down." High school students lead voter registration drive From Joe Arnold Louisville, KY - With the 2026 mid-term elections one year away, hundreds of new voters have been added to the rolls in Kentucky thanks to high school students participating in Co-op Champions, a program coordinated by Kentucky Electric Cooperatives, the association of all 26 electric co-ops in the commonwealth. Thirteen seniors who served as delegates on the weeklong Electric Cooperative Washington Youth Tour this summer, including Hunter Farmer at Taylor County High School, are enlisted in the leadership initiative that takes their youth tour experience to the next level. Modeled after the cooperative principles that drive Kentucky's member-owned electric co-ops, the Co-op Champions program empowers students to engage in their communities, take initiative, and practice civic responsibility. In addition to supporting their local co-ops and volunteering in their communities, each of the Co-op Champions students hosted a Co-ops Vote registration drive.
