Adair Co. Clerk's Office supports young Ag leaders 'Ag Tag' donations set another record in 2025 From Gabby Barnes Agriculture Educator/FFA Advisor Kentucky farmers donated nearly a million dollars for the Ag Tag Program in 2025. The total, $995,440.74, is the largest amount ever donated in a single year, topping last year's total by more than $60,000, Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell announced. This program is locally supported by Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer. "For the last three years, the Ag Tag Program has seen new record-breaking amounts every year," Commissioner Shell said. "This couldn't be possible without the wonderful support from our Kentucky farmers. They see value in supporting the next generation of farmers through their donations to the Ag Tag fund. It's that generosity that will help ensure Kentucky agriculture has a bright future." The voluntary donations are divided equally among Kentucky 4-H, Kentucky FFA, and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA). This year, each group will receive $331,813.58. Since 2016, Kentucky FFA and Kentucky 4-H have received, collectively, more than $4 million from donations made by ag producers renewing their vehicles each year. The Adair County FFA Chapter will receive $1,493.33, which will be divided between the middle and high school FFA chapters because of the Ag Tag program in 2025. Half of the 4-H and FFA donations are returned to local councils and chapters. FFA chapters are free to use the money to meet the greatest needs in their community. The Adair County FFA Chapter will use these funds to feed students at local events, purchase supplies for the barn and shop, and provide hands-on learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom. Achilles Award for Q32025 goes to Carol Perkins By Kim Harwood, Executive Director Edmonton Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce The Achilles Award for the third quarter of 2025 goes to Carol Perkins. Mrs. Perkins (as she is known by most of her former students) is best known for her time and energy as an educator. Mrs. Perkins was the 2003 Educator of the Year recipient, and radio personality, for years as Carol & Susan Unscripted. The show aired each Tuesday on 99.1 The Hoss. Did I mention she is also an author? Carol Perkins wears many hats, and this makes her an ideal choice for the Achilles Award. Carol took the lead a few years ago as the Shoebox Mission Coordinator. Metcalfe's Operation Shoebox Mission, part of the Samaritan's Purse Mission sends boxes worldwide spreading the Word of God, often to places where no missionaries are permitted to go. She has taken the mission to a new level with the help of amazing volunteers who purchase gifts for the boxes, use their sewing skills to make different craft/clothing items, and prepare the boxes to be shipped. Mrs. Perkins has put a lot of thought into the mission and comes up with clever ideas that she knows will have an impact on the children who receive a box. The arrival of the boxes is the highlight for many of these children. If you want to help with the Shoe Box Mission contact Carol Perkins through Facebook to see what you can do to help. Carol Perkins, we appreciate all you have done and all you still do to make Metcalfe County a better place, thank you and congratulations. We are honored to recognize you as an Achilles Award recipient. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2025-10-14 10:20:57 | Comments | Printable version

Genealogical Society and Center say Thanks for this weekend... By Mike Watson The Adair County Genealogical Society and the Adair Genealogy & History Research Center want to thank everyone for all the support this past weekend at Downtown Days and visiting our booth, shared with the Jane Lampton Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Many of our visitors brought great family and local history stories and much was discussed about our ancestors. I like to say that I learn something new every day, otherwise my day is largely wasted. I learned several things on Saturday, and have several new avenues to research. Additionally, I came away with a bankers box full of photos, books, and other artifacts picked up along the circuit of vendors. These will be sorted, cataloged and scattered throughout our collections. October is Archives Month as well as Family History Month, so... Everyone is always invited to come by the Research Center at 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, to research or just visit and look around. Our By 270.380.1024 or adairgenealogy@gmail.com.
