Adair Schools celebrate big for All In for Ag Education Week From Robin Hancock, FFA Advisor/Agriculture Teacher Adair County Middle School, Adair County High School The Kentucky Department of Education sponsors All In for Agriculture Education week twice a year, in March and September. As a result, schools all across the Commonwealth celebrated agriculture and learning about agriculture last week. Adair County Schools loved being a part of this great event by hosting representatives from the Kentucky Department of Education and Kentucky Department of Agriculture, including Deputy Agriculture Commissioner Warren Beeler, Kentucky State 4-H President Case Shirrell, and Clinton Corner, Kentucky State FFA Vice President of the Lake Cumberland Region. The theme for All In for Ag Education Week this spring was the dairy industry, in collaboration with The Dairy Alliance, which is a nonprofit organization funded by dairy farmers in the southeast United States to educate the public about dairy farming and delicious dairy foods, along with Farm Credit Mid-America. During the visit, Adair County FFA members Myla Curry, Maycee Hovious, Alyssa Greer, and Alexa Castrejon visited Jessica Simpson's 4th grade math classroom at Adair County Elementary School and Sarah Dean's 2nd grade classroom at Adair County Primary Center to teach a lesson about how cheese is made from milk (a liquid) into cheese (a solid), changing states of matter. Students in both classes were given the opportunity to try mozzarella cheese and learned about dairy farming. During the visit to our elementary schools, Pam Phipps and BreAnna Coffey's library technology students and Jennifer Mann's library students enjoyed read alouds of this spring's All In for Ag Education Week book, Millie's Farm Day, written by Ayla Tolentino and illustrated by Blakey Beth Callahan. Later in the day, teachers across Adair County and the state tuned in to a virtual field trip hosted by Compton Dairy Farm in Fairplay, Kentucky. Mr. Tony Compton was interviewed about his operation while students got to meet his family's dairy cows. Mr. Compton was joined by Kentucky Education Commissioner Dr. Robbie Fletcher, Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell, and author Ayla Tolentino on the "Ask the Aggies" panel. Students submitted questions for each "Aggie" to answer. After school, our visitors returned to Adair County Schools, where the Adair County FFA Chapter hosted an after school learning opportunity. Students from Camp Casey, Camp Safari, and Camp Arrow were bussed to the high school where they went through rotations to learn about soils and planting seeds in the FFA greenhouse with Brittany Smith, welding in the FFA Ag Shop with Gabby Barnes, and taking care of baby calves with Robin Hancock in the FFA barn. The Adair County FFA officers were also on hand to help with each station. The young students loved hands-on learning about agriculture, and the Adair County FFA really enjoyed teaching them! 2026-03-23 09:46:01 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Education
Softball: Lady Indians travel to Russell Co. on Monday By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer The Adair County Softball season is underway, and the Indians are currently sitting at 1-2 with a win over Monroe County and narrow losses to Casey County and Green County. The Tribe opened up their season on Thursday, March 19, 2026, with a 5-6 road loss to Casey County. On Friday the posted a 12-2 win in five innings over Monroe County. The team fell to Green County on the road 2-3. In the season opener against Casey County the Lady Indians were led on the mound by sophomore Keylin Bergin, who pitched six and two thirds innings of work. She had 111 pitches, giving up eight hits, six runs (three earned), and walking one batter while striking out eight Lady Rebels. This gave Bergin an ERA of 3.15 on the outing, a solid performance for the sophomore. She likely would have bagged a winning performance in this one, had it not been for Casey County's three unearned runs. The bats for the Lady Indians were led by Allee Campbell, Ashley Loy, and Jazalynn Young who all had two hits each. Young also led the team in RBI's with two. Ashley Loy led the squad in stolen bases, posting two of the team's four. Both Young and Campbell found the long ball in this game, posting a home run each. The Lady Indians are through three games outscoring their opponents 19-11, but find themselves below .500. That is certainly tough, but should also be a sign for hope. The team has showed they can compete, posting very good performances both offensively and defensively. The team will be back on the diamond at Russell County (1-1) today. First pitch is scheduled for 5pmCT on Monday March 23, 2026. The Tribe will round out the week by hitting the road to face Metcalfe County (0-2) on Tuesday and LaRue County (2-1) on Thursday. 2026-03-23 09:41:15 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Sports

Alex Martin led the Tribe on the mound in the win over John Hardin, going six innings after getting the start, where he gave up five hits and just one walk while striking out nine batters on 87 pitches. Fellow junior Matthew MeJean came in to close out the game, doing an inning of work on 15 pitches, with one hit and two strikeouts. On the offensive side of things, the Indians were led by Bryce Russell and Jackson Sinclair, who both posted two hits and two RBI. "I hope that you feel proud putting it on when you next step on the field." The next time the band will step on the field will be in the fall, when the Blue Raider football team plays its first 2026 home game at Parnell Family Stadium.
