TJ Health Columbia presents Spirit of Columbia awards

2026-04-14 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Duane Bonifer.
Neil Thornbury, CEO T.J. Regional Health, center, spoke as he presented the Spirit of Columbia awards to these two servants. He said, "In June of 2025, Critical Care Paramedic Cody Neat and others arrived on the scene of a vehicle versus a combine accident near the Breeding community. A victim was trapped in his vehicle that had collided with a combine. Thinking outside the box, Cody Neat had the idea to contact T.J. Health Columbia to see if blood could be transported to the scene. Shelby Hatcher took the call, which was highly unusual, and she immediately escalated the situation to the Chief Medical Officer in the Emergency Department and to Hospital Administration and the Lab. Everyone agreed that this course of action was appropriate and Shelby personally delivered the blood to the scene with an escort from local law enforcement. The quick thinking by Cody, the efforts of Shelby, and the collaboration between all departments involved saved the victim's life."
