Tornadoes hit Cane Valley, Chance exactly 17 years ago today The devastating storms hit without warning, but new technology, including CodeRed alerts, helps. Click on headline for complete story, with photos and information on updating your CodeRed information By Greg Thomas, Adair County 911 Director On this date in 1997 Adair County was struck by a F3 tornado in the Cane Valley, Holmes Bend, and Egypt area Another F2 tornado also hit that same time and night in Charlie Morrison Road area of the County. That was 17 years ago today. Tornado’s can strike without much warning, but technology has changed a lot in the past 17 years. As we’re moving into tornado season please be aware of the weather and listen to/follow your media and have a family disaster plan. All white page phone numbers should be in the CodeRed alert system All white page phone numbers should be in the County's Code-Red notification system but if you would like to add one that has changed or a cell number please visit Those who have already enrolled to receive CodeRED alerts but have recently moved or changed telephone numbers are encouraged to go to CodeRed Community Notification Enrollment/Adair County Fiscal Court Those without Internet access may call Adair County Emergency Management Office 270-384-4760 Monday through Friday, 8am-3pmCT, to subscribe to receive CodeRED messages by supplying their information over the phone. Sometimes it takes a nationally recognized campaign like National Preparedness Month to get the word out about CodeRED. Our number one priority has always been to keep our citizens safe. The only way to do that is to get them better prepared and the best way to be prepared is to be informed using the CodeRED system. - Greg Thomas This story was posted on 2014-03-28 16:14:43
