Soccer: LWU women post 2025 schedule Entering his 23rd season as head coach of the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer program, Drew Burwash has released the Blue Raiders schedule for the 2025 campaign. According to the NAIA's final Rating Percentage Index of 2024, Lindsey Wilson boasted the nation's number one strength of schedule and looks well on its way to carrying the same this time around. This season's 14-game slate includes eight teams ranked 23rd or better in last year's postseason coaches' poll, as well as five conference tournament champions, and nine total NAIA national tournament qualifiers. The Blue Raiders open their calendar at home for the first time since 2021 when they host River States Conference champion Oakland City (IN) on August 22, 2025, followed by an in-state match with Union Commonwealth (KY) on August 26, 2025, both at Walter S. Letter: Where Shannon got his nickname Gene Burton (who worked at the B&B Pool Room, now Moore's) writes: If I were betting money I would wager a small amount that James Burris gave Shannon his nickname around 1984-85. The reason why he gave him the nickname I can not recall. At the time Shannon was a young teenager and still lived at home with Hack Rowe. ACMS Girls Basketball 2025-2026 Schedule The ACMS Girls Basketball schedule has been released by Coach Mike Sneed. The ACMS Girls will kick off their season on Monday, August 4, 2025, with a home game against Southern Middle School, before hitting the road for a game against Taylor County on August 7, 2025. Fire Department will be accepting fire dues From Donald Hare The Columbia-Adair Volunteer Fire Department will be accepting fire dues through property tax bills beginning October 1, 2025. Please do not mail your fire dues directly to the fire department. Fire dues for residential and commercial properties are $25.00 per deed, with a cap of 3 deeds ($75.00). Non-Membership fire runs are $500.00. Property owners who wish to opt out of paying fire dues may do so from July 1 through April 15 annually. Property owners who wish to opt out will need to obtain the opt out form from the Adair County Judge Executive's Office, 424 Public Square, Suite 1, Columbia KY. CACVFD responds to fire on Jones Chapel Road From Grant Loy, Public Information Officer Columbia Adair County Fire Department The Columbia - Adair County Fire Department was dispatched at 04:38 hours on Tuesday morning, July 15, 2025, to 380 Jones Chapel Road on a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a single wide mobile home with heavy smoke & fire conditions showing. Firefighters then made an offensive attack on this fire quickly bringing it under control. The fire was contained to the original structure. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. There were 13 firemen on scene for approximately 1.5 hours. There were no injuries reported at the time of the incident. Wanda Marie Hunt, 77, Horse Cave, KY (1948-2025) Wanda Marie Hunt of Horse Cave, a native of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, at her residence. She was 77 years old. A memorial service will be held at 3pmET on Saturday July 19, 2025, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home, 9025 New Jackson Hwy., Magnolia, KY, with Dwayne Cook officiating.
