The first event of the first day is the 4-H Dog Show/Dog Agility event and will start at 10amCT. The carnival opens at 6pmCT and will end at 10. Pageants, 4-H poultry, rabbit and dog shows and the carnival will be held at 256 Industrial Park Road, Columbia, KY. CPD officer turns hang-up into training time From Columbia Police Department What started as a 911 hang-up call turned into a moment to remember. When Columbia Police Officer Travis Bell responded to a disconnected emergency call, he expected a welfare check. Instead, he found curious kids with big questions and even bigger smiles. Taking the time to ensure everything was okay, Officer Bell used the opportunity to engage with the children - showing them his patrol vehicle and explaining how his equipment works. Raymond Eugene McKinney, 88, Green County, KY Raymond Eugene McKinney of the McKinney Corner community of Green County, Kentucky, son of the late Alton and Mary Lizzie Meadows McKinney, was born on July 24, 1936 in Green County. He departed this life on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow, Kentucky having attained the age of 88 years, 11 months and 19 days. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church and was an employee of Taylor County RECC for over 47 years, and a farmer. Adair Co. Grand Jury July 10 indictments On Thursday, July 10, 2025, the Adair County Circuit Court Grand Jury met and handed down indictments against 6 individuals from Columbia, Knifley, and Russell Springs, KY. Charges included possession, criminal mischief, trafficking, terroristic threatening, assault, wanton endangerment, and criminal abuse. NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding. KBR ride will honor Deputy Joshua Phipps Each year the Kentucky Brotherhood Ride is held to honor Firefighters, Police Officers, EMS Personnel, Corrections Officer, and K9's who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Pam Phipps says, "It is our privilege to announce that The 2025 Kentucky Brotherhood Ride will conclude its annual honor ride recognizing Kentucky's fallen first responders in Russell County, in commemoration of our son, Deputy Joshua Phipps. The decision was made to hold the Honor Stop in Russell County as a tribute to Joshua." KBR2025 will start in Sandy Hook on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, and end in Russell Springs on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The ride will cover approximately 350 miles while honoring 19 fallen First Responders from 2024, including Deputy Phipps, who was shot and killed while pursuing a fleeing suspect in Russell Springs on September 16, 2024. KBR cyclists will depart from Hardin County on Day #4 of the ride, Saturday, and pass through Larue County, Taylor County, and Adair County on their way to Russell County. An Honor Stop Ceremony is planned at 3pmCT on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Russell County Middle School, 2258 S. Hwy. 127, Russell Springs, KY. Pam Phipps says, "The KBR, our family, and the Russell County First Responders' families, and friends invite everyone to attend the Honor Stop in remembrance of Joshua and other fallen First Responders of 2024." Note: Details for the last day's ride are still being finalized with area law enforcement. Adair Co. FFA attends State FFA Leadership Camp By Katie Kean, Adair County FFA Reporter Members of the Adair County FFA chapter recently attended camp at the Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center, where they focused on strengthening teamwork and preparing for a successful upcoming school year. FFA camp offered a unique environment for students to connect, develop crucial leadership skills, and establish objectives for the chapter's activities this school year. Throughout the week, students engaged in a variety of workshops and collaborative exercises designed to improve communication and cooperation. These activities challenged members to work together to solve problems and provide mutual support, thereby reinforcing the bonds within the chapter. As well, FFA members could pursue awards in areas at camp for being an outstanding leader and Addie Baker (Adair County FFA Vice President) earned a leadership award. In addition, Myla Curry (Adair County FFA President) served as President on the Week 4 FFA Camp Council. Also, Abby Maulden and Braxton Irvin won honors in athletics at camp. Alyssa Greer, Growing Communities Chairman, said, "FFA camp has taught me a tremendous amount of things from growing with my fellow officers to teaching me so much about getting our community together and engaged with our chapter."
