Letter: Midweek Farmers Market definitely worth checking out

Connie Youngs writes:
I went to the Farmers Market today and was quite pleased with the selection. While not as many vendors as on Saturday, there were still plenty of options. I did not purchase as much as I would have liked. There were baked goods at a couple different booths (bought sourdough bread), including pizza which tasted like homemade, some produce, honey, jams, etc.

While I focused on food, there were other things there. I noticed dream catchers. I briefly checked the Friend Fungi booth; in addition to mushrooms they also had some tinctures (not sure of the terminology). Definitely worth checking out.

Lindsey Wilson University community celebrates Historic Day

Louisville, KY - With warm congratulations from the governor of Kentucky and a packed room of well-wishers, Lindsey Wilson University celebrated an "incredibly historic day" at the Speed Art Museum on Tuesday evening.

After serving Kentucky for more than a century as Lindsey Wilson College, the school became Lindsey Wilson University on July 1, 2025. The unanimous decision to become a university was made in April by the Lindsey Wilson Board of Trustees.

Telling a standing-room only crowd to "remember that the best days for Lindsey Wilson University are still ahead," Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. said the school might have a different name, but its focus remains squarely on students.

"Our only goal has been to provide the richest and the warmest possible environment for our students and faculty to excel," said Luckey, who has been Lindsey Wilson's eighth president since 1998 and is the longest-serving college or university president in Kentucky. "That has been our laser focus since 1903, and it will continue to be for the next 122 years."

Celebrate Fourth of July weekend responsibly

From the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Office of Highway Safety

Frankfort, KY - Team Kentucky is reminding all Kentuckians that if their Independence Day celebration includes alcohol, they should celebrate responsibly.

Impaired driving crashes typically increase over holidays, so Team Kentucky is joining the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to remind drivers that "Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving." Even one drink can affect a driver's ability to operate a vehicle safely. Planning for a sober, designated driver before the festivities begin can help prevent serious injuries and loss of life on Kentucky's roadways.

To prevent tragedies, follow these recommendations:
  • Before the festivities begin, plan to get home safely at the end of the night.

  • If you're impaired, use a ride-booking company, taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation to get home safely.

  • If you see an impaired driver, safely pull over and contact law enforcement. You may dial the Kentucky State Police's toll-free line at 800-222-5555 or call 911.

  • If you know people who are about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to their destination safely.

  • Wear a seat belt! It is not only the law; it is also the best defense against an impaired driver. Buckling up helps prevent injury and death if you are involved in a crash.
"As we celebrate our nation's independence, I encourage every Kentuckian to make smart choices and put safety first," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "Driving under the influence puts lives at risk -- yours and others'. Plan ahead, use a designated driver or call a ride service. Above all, never get behind the wheel impaired. Together, we can make this a safe and joyful holiday weekend for everyone across the Commonwealth."
