CU hosts panel discussion featuring local pastors at chapel By Simon Baker "You have a gift that is valuable to the church, and the church has gifts that are valuable to you. And if you unplug, you're robbing the church of that benefit and yourself of the benefit of those gifts," Pastor Kent Ashley shared at a recent Campbellsville University chapel. Ashley was part of a panel of pastors in the Campbellsville community, who discussed what legacy means, the role of the church, the challenges of walking with God and how to share faith and lessons with the next generation. The panel was led by Senior Pastor Dwayne Norman, who preaches at Campbellsville Baptist in Campbellsville. The panel consisted of Ashley, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Campbellsville; Tyrone Johnson, pastor of First Baptist Church in Campbellsville; Blake Jessie, who serves at Campbellsville Baptist Church; and Brian Rafferty, senior pastor of Elkhorn Baptist Church in Campbellsville. Garden Tour 2025: Farm to Table Living at Home From Sheila Willis "Farm to table" is the perfect way to describe the primary gardens at our home. While fruits and vegetables receive the most attention, our love for planting and managing crops has expanded into additional spaces filled with a wide variety of plants. Gardening has always been a part of our lives. We pick our produce fresh and either enjoy it right away or preserve it through canning and freezing. Over the past five years, we've added a strawberry patch, raspberry bushes, a blueberry patch, an asparagus bed, and several Concord grape vines. We also created a dedicated pollinator garden to support our beehives. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2025-05-12 02:16:35 | Comments | Printable version
Outdoor burning restrictions effective now Frankfort, KY - May marks the beginning of ozone season in the commonwealth. To protect families and improve air quality, outdoor burning in many counties is restricted until Sept. 30. Ozone is protective when it occurs high in the stratosphere, but ground-level ozone is a summertime health risk, created when pollutants chemically react in the atmosphere in the presence of heat and sunlight. Ground-level ozone irritates breathing passages and can trigger asthma attacks. Asthma affects more than 380,000 Kentuckians. Open burning contributes to ozone pollution. Cicadas expected to start singing in mid May From Daniel Wilson, Storm Alert Center Kentucky will soon experience the coming of Brood 14 of 17-year periodical cicadas this spring that are known for their red eyes and loud singing and this is expected to be middle May across most of Central and Eastern Kentucky. According to the University of Kentucky, we will begin seeing this rare brood of cicadas when the soil warms to the mid-60s, about the same time you start to see iris blooms. When they do come, experts say they are not harmful to humans, pets or wildlife, as they do not bite or sting. While some may compare cicadas to locusts, they do not swarm and cause massive plant damage.
