Deron Breeze announces resignation as Indians Head Coach

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

Long time Adair County Indians head basketball coach Deron Breeze has resigned his position. The team comes off a masterful 30-6 season which saw the Indians go all the way to the state tournament. This was Breeze's second straight trip to the state tournament with the team, making him only the second ever Adair County coach to win the region in consecutive years, and the first to do so in 70 years.

I caught up with Coach Breeze and he had the following to say about what his time with the Indians has meant to him:
"Coaching at Adair has been great 99% of the time. Leaving South Warren and coming to Adair County was (the) best decision I have made personally. Having moved quite frequently since (I was) a kid, Adair County is where I consider home and is home to my family. When people ask where I'm from I say Adair County. My oldest son graduated from here and I anticipate my youngest son doing the same.

We have had a lot of success while coaching at Adair, but the success is a direct result of the support by the administration, co-workers and the community as they have all had a major hand in the success in many ways including donations to the programs that allowed us to get equipment to train or the unbelievable fan support."
Under Breeze's 10 seasons of leadership, the Indians have experienced many incredible moments: the first ever bid to the 2A state championship for the Indians in 2022, three 20th District championships, five bids to the 5th Region tournament, and of course two 5th Region championships.

Breeze had this to say when asked to recall his favorite moments as head coach:

Carol Perkins: Storms and feather beds

Previous Column: The Stretch Stitch

By Carol Perkins

My mother was terrified of storms. She was sure lightning would strike one of us if we weren't sitting on a feather bed or holding a feather pillow. We had to keep our feet off the floor, which was easy, since they didn't reach the floor.

When I asked why she was so afraid of storms, she blamed it on an aunt who feared everything.

Unlike my mother, I don't fear storms. I respect them, but don't go to the lengths she did for protection. If a storm warranted a tornado, we went to the basement. Neighbors often joined us, creating a party atmosphere for us kids. Even my grandmother and uncles came to our basement. My dad never feared storms, but he respected my mother's neurosis.

As she got older and after my dad passed, she didn't want to be alone if a storm was predicted, so if her brother didn't come to her house, I would go after her.

One particular time that made me lose my patience happened when a storm was raging.

Classroom game helps LWC students prepare for Business World

From Duane Bonifer

A trio of Lindsey Wilson College students are channeling their passion for competing in athletics into a business competition.

The students, who are members of the spring's "Operations Management" class, are competing in the Business Strategy Game, a real-life simulation in which more than 3,000 business students from all over the world run an athletic footwear company. All of the students in the Lindsey Wilson class participate in the game. Student teams are ranked weekly based on earnings per share, return on average equity and stock price.

About midway through the competition, the Lindsey Wilson team of Esteban Perez '27, David Requejo '27 and Juan Sola '26 tied for 12th place out of 3,055 teams from 140 colleges and universities in the competition. The final results will be determined later this semester. The Lindsey Wilson students' current accomplishment is the latest of several top-100 postings by Blue Raider business teams over the last few years.

"Our students are exceptional, and I expect many more top-100 celebrations this semester," said Lindsey Wilson business professor Cathy Boatright.
