Carol Perkins: The Stretch Stitch Previous Column: On the Road Again By Carol Perkins The cute material I found to make teddy bears for the Metcalfe Shoebox Mission was a stretchy knit, which is challenging to navigate around ears, arms, and legs. The setting on my sewing machine needed to be for a stretch stitch. I picked up the manual and read, which is something I don't like to do. I scanned the index for the next fifteen minutes but found nothing about a stretch stitch. I learned about a dozen other stitches, but not the one I needed. A picture showed where the tension for a similar stitch was located, but there was no such "wheel" on the side of my machine. Lanterns & Tombstones Tour returns April 4 The Fourth Season of Columbia City Cemetery Walking Tour will take place beginning at 7pmCT on Friday night, April 4, 2025, in conjunction with "Columbia Nights" (formerly "To-the-Nines" downtown event). Dave Thomas and Mike Watson will lead participants through various parts of the more than two century year-old graveyard, pointing out bits of interesting lore along the way. The Tour will form at the edge of the Judicial Center parking area at Merchant and Monroe Streets, and will proceed up the drive to the Historic Cemetery. We will return to the same location. Please do not park in the cemetery. This is a walking tour through the historic cemetery and participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, bring a jacket if it is cool, and your enthusiasm. Small flashlights will be provided to aid you in winding your way on the Tour. Hope to see you there! LWC Symposium explores Synergy in Leadership From Duane Bonifer Different paths and ways to build effective teams through leadership were put under the microscope at the 2025 Lindsey Wilson College L3 Leadership Symposium, held Thursday, March 27, in the college's W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall. A nonet of speakers discussed, examined and explored the multitude of traits and characteristics that contribute to the theme of this year's symposium, "Synergy in Leadership: Building, Leading and Thriving in Teams." "What does it mean to be a team, and how do you get them to thrive together?" Director of Civic Engagement, Student Leadership and the Bonner Scholar Program Kisha Burton '13, who organized the symposium, asked the audience. "That's what we will hear from our speakers." Drawn from the college's student body, faculty and staff - what Burton called "a wonderful meeting of the minds from all parts of campus" - the three trios of speakers offered a wide range of approaches to forming and building a team that can thrive in many environments and conditions. Tennis: LWC tops Cumberland in MSC play Lebanon, TN - The No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team extended its winning streak with a 5-2 road victory over No. 25 Cumberland (TN) on Thursday evening at the Tommy Gray Memorial Courts. The Blue Raiders (10-2, 2-0 MSC) secured the doubles point and claimed four singles wins, with Anastasiia Ivanchenko clinching the victory to remain undefeated in Mid-South Conference action. The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the No. 12 Cumberland men's team. The Blue Raiders (9-3, 2-0 MSC) claimed the doubles point and earned three singles wins to remain unbeaten in conference play. Marcal Miret provided the clinching at court No. 5 when the Blue Raiders were 3-2 up.
