Edith Aaron, 91, Russell County, KY Edith Aaron, of Jamestown, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025. She was 91 years of age. Born at home on August 4, 1933, in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Edra Smith Shaw. Edith was blessed to be a homemaker and enjoyed her life working at home. She loved being a mom and raising her four children. Edith took pride in growing a big garden. She was a "giver" at heart and always willing to share her abundant harvest. Edith had accepted Jesus as her Savior and was of the Christian faith. Cadet Corp/JROTC Pizza Party From Joe Hare, PIO VFW Columbia Post 6097 On Friday, March 21, 2025, VFW Columbia Post 6097 treated approximately 50 high school students to a pizza lunch. The students were members of the Cadet Corp at Adair County High School or members of the JROTC at Russell County High School. Several members of the Post presented displays and information of the different branches of service. It is such a honor and pleasure to visit with these outstanding young men and women, some of which will be going into the service. Our post also presents a $500 scholarship to one student from each of these two schools at the end of the year. Fourth annual Student Art Show at Trabue-Russell House From Mary Anne Loy The Trabue-Russell House Board announces its Fourth Annual Adair Student Art Show, which will be on display from April 15-19, 2025. Tuesday through Friday exhibit hours are 2pmCT to 5:30pmCT. On Saturday, April 19, 2025, the exhibit will be open 10amCT to 2pmCT. Admission is Free. Children through grade 12 are invited to exhibit their work. All mediums are welcome. Work needs to be submitted by Monday, April 14, 2025. Additional information is available by calling 270-378-0351. The show is funded by the Jim Blair Memorial Fund and administered by the City of Columbia, owners of this historic home. The original brick portion of the home was built in 1821-23 by Daniel Trabue, one of Columbia's founders. Two later additions doubled the home's size, which was owned by the James Montgomery Russell family for 100 years. It is a unique setting for the art work of today. Come see what creative forces are at work in Adair County, now in its 224th year! Sweet 16 Week begins in Adair County athletics This day begins a Sweet 16 Week here as the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team, the 2025 5th Region Champions, will now move on to the state tournament, where they will play the winner of the 4th Region at 10amCT/11amET Wednesday March, 26, 2025, in Rupp Arena. Mayor Hoots proclaimed it the team's week in Columbia and there will be a parade as the Indians leave town, starting at the school campus around 2pmCT today, Monday, March 24th. Roger Dale Purvis, 76, Green County, KY Roger Dale Purvis of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late William Thomas Purvis and Aldie Jane Morris Purvis, was born on June 25, 1948 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He departed this life on Friday, March 21, 2025 at his residence having attained the age of 76 years, eight months and 26 days. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and was a lifelong farmer. Letter: Milltown Road old bank Donna Davis writes: I purchased the last farmhouse left on Milltown Road last year and live across the street from this old brick bank building. I can confirm that the beautiful trumpet vines are still taking over the roof.
