Teddy Bear Clinic held at MCHS by HOSA Club By by Torrie Osbon Director of Communications, Metcalfe County Schools The Metcalfe County High School HOSA Club of Future Health Professionals invited all of the MCES preschool students to the Teddy Bear Clinic today so all of their favorite stuffed animals could get check-ups. The younger students dressed in scrubs, gloves, and masks to help with the health assessments, which included measurements, blood pressure checks, X-rays, ultrasounds, hearing and vision screenings, vital signs tests, hygiene activities, and medicine checks. Dane Rose, 79, Cumberland County, KY Estaline Dane (Long) Rose of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025 in Burkesville, Kentucky, having attained the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 2 days. She was born in Burkesville, Kentucky on July 19, 1945 the daughter of Eular Alexander & Nannie (Skipworth) Long. Dane was of the Christian faith; a member of Jones Chapel Methodist Church, and a member of the Cumberland County Book Club. Kentucky Color: Early Spring Flowers By Billy Joe Fudge There are more Red Maple trees in the United States than any other! Many are cultivars of the original, including this one. Red Maples and Silver Maples are some of the earliest flowering native trees in the Great Wooded South. These early spring flowers (see photo) on a Red Maple cultivar in the Columbia Walmart parking lot are beautiful but are nothing like the original Red Maple flowers. I have an original Red Maple in my yard that I dug in the woods back in the nineties. It is about forty feet tall and the trunk at 5 feet above the ground is about eighteen inches in diameter. I planted both a Red and Sugar Maple at the same time in my yard on the southwest end of the house. They shade that end of the house from the scorching summer sun saving me $80 to $100 a month on my electric bill from mid-spring thru early fall. In your yard original Red Maples will grow 40-60 feet tall and in the woods as tall as 90 feet in height.
