Christmas Tree Decorating at Adair Genealogy & History Center From Mike Watson We are beginning a new tradition at the Adair County Genealogy & History Research Center in 2024, with a "small tree" decorating contest, open to businesses, organizations, and groups in the area. Small trees, 1 to 4 feet in height, can be decorated in any theme desired--theme to your business, etc. Lighted or unlighted (lights must be battery operated due to lack of electrical outlets). Come decorate trees on from 3pmCT to 6pmCT on November 19, 20, 21 or 25 [or as arranged]. Judging will take place during first week of December, by a "secret panel" of judges. There will be 1st and 2nd Place Awards, and a People's Choice for "Best Tree" shall be voted on daily during that week by visitors. Winners will be announced in conjunction with the Columbia Christmas Parade on December 7, 2024. Trees will be displayed in the Research Center through the end of December Sponsored by the Columbia Adair-County Chamber of Commerce, Adair County Genealogical Society, and the Adair Genealogy & History Research Center of the Adair County Public Library. KSP investigation leads to drug trafficking arrests From Trooper Jonathan Houk Burkesville, KY - In the early morning hours of Thursday, November 14, 2024, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 Troopers, in conjunction with local law enforcement, conducted a drug investigation in Cumberland County, leading to the arrest of three individuals for trafficking controlled substances. During a joint investigation with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and Burkesville Police Department, KSP Troopers uncovered information leading to obtaining a search warrant for a residence on Coolidge Humphrey Road in Cumberland County. Troopers executed the search warrant and completed a search of the residence, which produced suspected methamphetamine, suspected hydrocodone pills, and suspected marijuana. Also located during the search was a firearm along with several items of drug paraphernalia. CPD: Columbia man charged with possession, trafficking By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department The Columbia Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Heskamp Street on Wednesday night, November 13, 2024. After making contact with the vehicle operator, subject was found to have a suspended license. Party gave consent to search car and officers located suspected narcotics as well as paraphernalia within vehicle. The subject was taken into custody. Fifth graders visit Trabue Russell House A whole lot of teaching and learning went on when the historic Trabue Russell House recently filled up with Adair County Elementary School 5th graders. About 75 ACES fifth graders attended Thursday with another 75 on Friday. Volunteers joined Mary Anne and Barry Loy to help make it possible for students to experience life as it might have been when the Trabue Russell House and its builder Daniel Trabue were new to Columbia. Michael-Dan Hunter Mings, 26, Green County, KY Michael-Dan Hunter Mings, son of David Michael Mings of Greensburg and Tarrah Mae Johnson and her husband, Ben Johnson of Somerset, was born on Friday, May 1, 1998 in Campbellsville and departed this life on Monday, November 11, 2024 at his home. He was 26 years, 6 months, and 10 days of age. He graduated from Adair County High School in 2016, and in his free time, he enjoyed cooking and baking. He was generous, had a big heart, and always tried to help others in their time of need. This year's parade theme is 'A Traditional Christmas'. There is no cost for registration but all entries MUST register by calling the Chamber at 270-384-6020 or email coladair@duo-county.com We have judged categories for floats and decorated non-floats, such as golf carts, ATV's, even pick up trucks not pulling a float. And lots of non-judged entries including vintage cars and motorcycles; dignitaries including Little Miss and Mister; non-judged floats, trucks, tractors; emergency vehicles and of course, Santa and Mrs. Clause will be riding in the fire truck.
