Letter: Bypass

Ann Pearson writes:
It was nice to see the big trucks going around instead of going through the square. Why can't we keep them off the square? They block traffic, damage the square and just make it harder to get around town. Why can't we keep the trucks off the square all the time instead of just on special occasions?

T.J. Community Mission Foundation welcomes Children's Day

Glasgow, KY - The T.J. Community Mission Foundation (TJCMF) is proud to announce that Children's Day has officially become a program of the Foundation. The public announcement took place during a resolution signing ceremony at the Champions of Care Luncheon, hosted by TJCMF on Friday, October 4, 2024. The resolution was signed by Children's Day Fund Board Chair Helena Birdwell, Dr. Bharat Mody, Chair Emeritus of the Children's Day Board, and T.J. Community Mission Foundation Board Chair Doug Landers. The agreement marks a new chapter for Children's Day, transferring its operations to TJCMF.

The resolution highlights TJCMF's commitment to preserving the original mission of Children's Day by continuing to support the basic needs of local children through partnerships with Family Resource and Youth Service Centers (FRYSCs). Additionally, TJCMF is dedicated to expanding this mission to include new pediatric health initiatives, further enhancing the well-being of children in the region.

Founded in 2012, Children's Day has supported the basic needs of children in Barren County through the collaborative efforts of Dr. Bharat Mody and FRYSC coordinator Brenda Chaney. Each year, the program has raised funds through the Children's Day Celebration, held around November 20 to coincide with World Children's Day, as well as through major fundraising efforts led by Dr. Mody.

Travel: Northwest and Central Oregon

By Robert Ellis
Robert Ellis Woodworking

For our trip to Oregon this fall, we made plans to see the Columbia River Gorge, John Day Fossil Beds National Monument (John Day is comprised of three separate units). We saw the Sheep Rock and Painted Hills units. From there we traveled to Smith Rock State Park (reminded me a lot of a small version of Zion National Park in Utah).

Since we were staying in Redmond, Oregon, and Crater Lake National Park is only about 120 miles away, we decided to visit this National Park...again. We had visited it before on a previous trip but couldn't see it for the dense fog over the entire lake. This year brought crystal blue skies. The last full day of the trip was Silver Falls State Park, which has several waterfalls as well, along with moss-covered, old-growth forests.

Our first stop was an overlook point near the beginning of the highway that runs along the Columbia River. I believe we saw nine on this day, including Silver Falls State Park. The total waterfalls visited this trip was around fourteen!

Note: We'll be posting photos from Robert's trip as he shares them, but you can bookmark this article to find them all as they're added.
