Ageism Awareness Day is Oct 9, 2024 From Lynda Wilkerson Ageism refers to the stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination towards others or oneself based upon age. Ageism is one of the last socially accepted prejudices. It has a host of negative effects upon people's physical and mental health as well as society as a whole. The good news is we can do something about it! The Support Agency asks that you join us in bringing attention to the impact of ageism and begin to reframe aging in our community. According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 2 people worldwide are ageist against older people. Another interesting statistic is that people with more positive self perceptions of aging live 7.5 years longer than those with less positive perceptions. So, join us today in thinking positively about your own aging.
