CPD: Man arrested for possession, indecent exposure By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department On Monday morning, April 29, 2024, it was reported to officers within the Adair Judicial Center that a male subject was in the parking lot exposing himself from within a vehicle. Contact was made with an individual matching the vehicle description while he was still in the car. It was determined that the subject was under the influence, and K9 Unit Cally was deployed and alerted on the subject's vehicle. A search yielded findings of drug paraphernalia and suspected narcotics. Lanterns & Tombstones Tour this Friday From Mike Watson and Dave Thomas The Third Season of Columbia City Cemetery Walking Tour is well under way and the next installment will take place this Friday night, May 3, 2024, in conjunction with Columbia's "To-the-Nines" downtown shopping event. Dave Thomas and Mike Watson will lead participants through various parts of the 210+ year old graveyard, pointing out bits of interesting lore along the way. The Tour will form at the edge of the Judicial Center parking area at Merchant and Monroe Streets, at 7pmCT, and will proceed up the drive to the Historic Cemetery. National Day of Prayer is May 2 Adair County churches will be participating in the National Day of Prayer at NoonCT on Thursday, May 2, 2024. The gathering will be on the steps of the Courthouse Annex Building on the Columbia Square. The 2024 National Day of Prayer theme: "Lift up the word, light up the world", is based on the verses found in 2 Samuel 22:29-31: "For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness ...This God--His way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.".We will pray for America: the Family, Church, Business & Workplace, Education, Military, Government, Arts, Media & Entertainment. Update on accident victim Jack Fishback Sixteen-year-old Jack Fishback, severely injured in a vehicle accident last week, is, in the first stages of recovery. His Mom, Lacey, shared her sincere thanks to the people who found him and helped until first responders could keep Jack alive and get him to the hospital. She sends her deep gratitude to Randolph Lewis who turned around after he saw a reflection of the sun, went back and found Jack, to David Waltz and others who tried to help on the scene, and for every prayer sent up in Jack's name. History Monday: The freeze of 1886 Mike Watson sends this excerpt from the Columbia Spectator, 3 February 1886: This last cold wave beats all old time weather clear out of sight--cattle, hogs and poultry froze to death all through this country. One old fellow's thermometer went down so low it never come back. Some registered 21 and some 32 and Capt. Billy Elliott's reached 40 degrees below Zero.
