Bro. Arndell Grider, 75, Russell County, KY (1948-2023) Bro. Arndell Grider, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on December 22, 2023, at the Russell County Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army with the 4th Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment (Manchus) 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War earning the Bronze Star Medal, The Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 campaign stars and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. After the military he obtained his vocation through the Russell County Vocational School and won placement in several state competitions. Later in life he started his own business known as Grider's Electrical and Plumbing. The history of the artificial Christmas tree Peek in the average American's home during the holidays and you're likely to find an artificial Christmas tree. The American Christmas Tree Association reports that 75 percent of Americans display a Christmas tree and roughly 84 percent of them will put up an artificial one. Ever wonder where and when the artificial Christmas tree first laid its roots? Artificial or not, these trees certainly have grown through the years. The first artificial Christmas trees started to appear in Germany in the late 19th century. At the time, Germany was suffering extensive deforestation and people needed a greener alternative. Early artificial trees actually used goose feathers, dyed green to emulate bristles. These trees didn't offer the lushest experience, but they became popular nonetheless. James Hayden Montgomery, 85, Taylor County, KY James Hayden "The Snowman" Montgomery of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of the late Fred and Maddie Perry Montgomery, was born on September 23, 1938 in Green County, Kentucky. He departed this life on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at his residence having attained the age of 85 years, two months and 28 days. He served his country honorably in the Kentucky Army National Guard 623rd Field Artillery Battalion. As owner and operator of Montgomery Summer Snow in Campbellsville, his personality and shaved ice creations made for a popular spot for kids and adults. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Pitman Valley Baptist Church.
