Vickie Lynn Staley, 61, Cumberland County, KY Vickie Lynn Staley, age 61 of Burkesville, KY passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at her home . Vickie was born on August 23, 1962 in Cumberland County, KY to the late Charles Richard Goodhue and Arline Goodhue who survives. She was retired from Adanta and the Cumberland County Public Library and a member of the Happy Hour Homemakers Club. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Staley. Diane Bland, 76, Taylor County, KY (1947-2023) Audrey Diane Caulk Bland of Campbellsville, daughter of the late W. R. "Dick" Caulk and Ermine Richerson Caulk, was born June 23, 1947 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, December 20, 2023 in Greensburg at age 76. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of St. Mark Methodist Church. She attended college at Campbellsville University and was employed as a clerk at Kmart and Parks Belk. She enjoyed reading and loved her cats and the Taylor County Public Library. Columbia, Kentucky is currently in Severe Drought (D2), according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, and conditions are expected to persist over the next 3 months. Carol Perkins: Christmas Cheer Previous Column: Christmas Tales By Carol Perkins Decorating for Christmas back in the 1950s and 1960s was a family affair, and kept very simple. Not much frills, and no blow-up reindeer. A few days before Christmas--or I should say nights, because it was dark by then--when I was barely a teen, my mother turned the overhead light on over the front steps and hung a wreath. We made the wreath from cedar branches wrapped around a coat hanger, and added a bow. As she was lining it up and hammering a nail, my mother heard a moaning, stopping her in her tracks. Soon, she heard what could have been "help" coming from across the road. Because of the dark, she couldn't see anyone, but she suspected who might be in need.
