Jim Wilson, 82, Casey County, KY (1941-2023) James "Jim" Wilson, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at St. Clair Hospital in Morehead. He was 82. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and was also caretaker of Salem Cemetery for many years. He was an avid sports fan; particularly loving the UK Wildcats, Cincinnati Reds, and Casey County High School basketball. He enjoyed scratching lottery tickets, eating sweets, and most of all, visiting the lounge at McKinney-Brown every day to read the newspaper and to warm up his coffee. Women unite to honor fallen heroes during Christmas From Captain Paul Blanton Frankfort, KY - In a poignant display of solidarity and remembrance, two women separated by state lines are joining forces for the fifth consecutive year to ensure the sacrifices of fallen Kentucky State Police officers are never forgotten. This heartwarming collaboration spans the miles between Pennsylvania and Kentucky, where a sister-in-law and a mother who lost their officers in the line of duty join forces to bring Christmas wreaths to the gravesites of KSP's 37 fallen officers. The Fallen Heroes Wreath Program, initiated by the family of Philadelphia Police Officer John Pawlowski, who lost his life on Feb. 13, 2009, when responding to a domestic dispute, serves as the driving force behind the initiative. Inspired by the national "Wreaths Across America" program, which honors military personnel with wreaths on gravesites, the Pawlowski family crafted a similar program to pay tribute to law enforcement officers during the Christmas season. This year the program is placing over 1,800 Christmas wreaths across the country. Provalus announces $3M Wayne Co. investment From Crystal Staley/Brandon Mattingly Frankfort, KY - On Dec. 7, 2023, Gov. Andy Beshear announced growth in the state's nonretail service and technology sectors as Provalus - a division of prominent information technology Optomi LLC - will locate in Monticello with a $3 million investment that will create 200 full-time jobs - the largest job-creation investment in Wayne County since 2010. "The economic momentum we are seeing across the state is the result of companies believing in what Kentucky has to offer," said Gov. Beshear. "Optomi is just the latest example, with the company creating an incredible 200 job opportunities for the families of Wayne County. I want to congratulate Optomi's leadership and look forward to the company's success here in the commonwealth." The new operation will be the company's first in Kentucky, located in a 30,000-square-foot leased facility in Monticello that will allow the company to serve Fortune 2000 and larger clients in various domains, including cybersecurity, network operations, quality assurance, security, application development and back-office operations. Strong response for ARPA funding projects From Tiffany Collins The City of Columbia has had great success with the local business improvement program through funding received from the American Rescue Plan Act. Approximately fifteen applications were processed in 2022. Close to fifty have been submitted in 2023, and another twenty-five are to be discussed. Due to the response and the amount of the funding that was allocated for the projects, the accepting of applications will be suspended immediately. "We appreciate the response from the community and local businesses," stated Mayor Pamela Hoots. "We want to ensure that the funding is available for these businesses that have submitted applications."
