Adair Co. Retired Teacher Association to meet Dec 12

The Adair County Retired Teacher Association will meet at 10amCT on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. The meeting will be held at the Adair County Chamber of Commerce Building, 201 Burksville Street, Columbia, KY.

New retirees (since previous meeting) will be recognized. Donations for food pantry, school supplies, as well as monetary gifts will be collected.

Following the business meeting, local attorney James D. Zornes will be sharing information about important topics such as power of attorney, wills, and trusts. Please join us for this important meeting.

Justin Burris stayed busy packing OCC shoebox gifts into cartons. Justin was part of a 15 member team that traveled to the Atlanta processing center last week.

As of Monday over 1 million boxes have been processed and are now ready to travel to one of more than 100 countries.

CPD: Traffic stop leads to meth arrest

Columbia Police Department

The Columbia Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Campbellsville Street this afternoon, December 5, 2023. After making contact, the driver consented to avehicle search by officers.

A passenger in the vehicle was found to have paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine.

Carolyn Jean Milby, 79, Green County, KY (1944-2023)

Carolyn Jean Vaughn Milby of Greensburg, daughter of the late Woodruff Vaughn and Mildred Price Vaughn, was born on Friday, September 15, 1944 and passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023. She was 79 years, 2 months, and 17 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the South Summersville Baptist Church. She worked at Fruit of the Loom for 30 plus years and as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Green Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Frank Craft, 91, Cumberland County, KY (1932-2023)

Frank Craft, of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, having attained the age of 91 years, 3 months & 11 days.

He was born in Burkesville, Kentucky on Tuesday, August 23, 1932 the son of Fayette and Bertha Victoria Thrasher Craft. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cassie Lee Johnson Craft, his siblings, Goethal Craft, Roy Craft, Bertha Golda Nation, Imogene Charles, Martha Bell Craft, and a son-in-law, Ronnie Watkins.

Shelby Reece, 82, Metcalfe County, KY (1941-2023)

Shelby Loy Reece, 82, of Knob Lick, KY passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, at her residence. She was born on April 30, 1941, in Metcalfe County to the late Ed Delmer and Georgia Marine Pedigo Bennett.

Mrs. Reece was a member of the Wisdom Community Church, she was saved at an early age on August 28, 1951, and baptized at Slick Rock. She enjoyed playing the organ and piano and played for many funerals and various events in Metcalfe County and surrounding areas. She was a former member of the Wisdom Homemaker's Club and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Boil Water Advisory issued for Chestnut Grove and Redlick Roads

Update: Boil Water Advisory lifted for Chestnut Grove and Redlick Roads

Date Issued 12/4/2023
Time Issued 12:15 P.M.

A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for consumers on Chestnut Grove Road, Redlick Road and all side roads in between. The advisory has been issued due to a main line leak.

Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. For more information concerning the Boil Water Advisory, contact Lennon Stone at Columbia Adair Utilities District, 270-384-2181.

Homeplace Holiday Hustle Trail Race is Dec 16

Fresh air, family fun, wood-fired pizza, a chance to run or walk on groomed pathways through a historic farm and a breath-taking nature preserve. All this and more awaits participants at this year's Homeplace Holiday Hustle trail race, from 8amET to 11amET on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the historic Homeplace on Green River, 5807 New Columbia Rd., Campbellsville, KY.

Homeplace on Green River is a demonstration farm dating from before the birth of Abraham Lincoln. The farm's annual Holiday Hustle is a 10-and-5-kilometer race or walk that winds over the farm's rolling acres, along pathways at the adjoining Nature Conservancy and across a century-old bridge that once spanned the nearby Green River and now rises from the Conservancy's tall grasses.

You can save on entry fees by signing up early for the walk/run at Runsignup.com, or you can register on the day of the event. Register before Dec 6, 2023, to get your a Homeplace Holiday Hustle sweater! We will not be printing extras of these, and the price to race is the same day of without the sweater.

Local volunteers head to Atlanta for Operation Christmas Child

The Columbia Baptist Church, Sparksville Baptist Church, and Glens Fork Church of Good News combined forces to send a group of 15 individuals to volunteer at the Operation Christmas Child processing center in Atlanta, Georgia in 2023.

The processing center in Atlanta has completed one million of the projected two million boxes that they will prepare for shipment to other countries.

For 2023, there were 3,300 shoebox gifts collected in Adair County. (OCC 2023 total is 3,300 shoebox gifts).

USDM: Drought predicted to persist in December

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center has released its latest monthly drought outlook for December 2023, showing where drought is expected to improve, worsen, or remain the same over the next month. Columbia, Kentucky is currently in Severe Drought (D2), according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, and conditions are expected to persist over the next month.
