Doug Pickett, Green County, KY (1931-2023)

Doug Pickett was born December 5, 1931, in Green County, KY to the late Ewell Hollan Pickett Sr and Anna Mae Twyman. He departed this life on Thursday, November 30, 2023, having attained the age of ninety-one years, eleven months, and twenty-five days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Greensburg United Methodist Church. Doug was a graduate of Greensburg High School in 1950. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy, served in the Korean War, and served in the Beachmaster Unit One (BMU-1). He was a Life Member of James L. Pruitt Post 5813 Veterans of Foreign Wars Greensburg and a Rod Lowe Post 124 American Legion Greensburg, KY Life Member.

Dannie M. Kelley, 77, Columbia, KY (1946-2023)

Dannie Martello Kelley, 77, of Columbia, KY passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at his residence with his wife by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 1pmCT on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery, with military honors provided by VFW Post 6097.

Visitation will be on Monday after 6amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Kentucky Color: Citizen's Park III, Tree Killers

We usually think of tree killers as men harvesting trees with chain saws, men with heavy equipment clearing land and all kinds of disease and insect infestations. However, each and every one of us can be complicit in the killing of trees by simply doing nothing.

As referenced in Citizen's Park II, clear and present threats to the health of our urban forests and in some areas, our forestlands themselves, come when vines attack. The particular threat to our urban forest, the trees in our yards, the trees along streets and roadways, and in public spaces as in our Citizen's Park comes most often in the form of invasive species.

The LWC Singers are ready for action to share our "finale concert" of the semester in Columbia, and would like to invite you to sing with us (yes, that's right, you!) in the Christmas Extravaganza this coming Wednesday evening, December 6, 2023. We're totally "key'ed up" for you to experience Christmas on a high note.

CU to present Great Christmas Cookie Bake-Off Dec 7-10

Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University's Department of Theatre and Dance, Town Hall Productions and Heritage Children Services will present "The Great Christmas Cookie Bake-Off" Thursday, December 7 to Sunday, December 10, 2023, in the Russ Mobley Theatre, 114 University Drive, Campbellsville.

Show times are at 7pmET on Thursday, December 7, Friday, December 8, and Saturday, December 9, 2023; and 2:30pmET on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

General Admission is $12. Admission for children under 12 and seniors 65 and over is $8. Cost of admission for Campbellsville University employees and students is $8. Tickets are available at townhallpro.com. "The Great Christmas Cookie Bake-Off" is a musical and a cookie bake-off competition that "combines the time-honored tradition of Christmas cookies with the ever-popular phenomenon of reality baking competitions."

CPD releases 2023 Columbia parade route

Columbia's annual Christmas Parade will take place Saturday, December 2, at 6pmCT.

Parade route will again start from Industrial Park, turning right on Jamestown Street going the length through town where it will come around Public Square and end on Burksville Street near the intersection of East and West Frazier Avenue.

Streets will be shut down shortly before and during the duration of the parade.

Keith Fields, 37, Taylor County, KY (1986-2023)

Keith Allen Fields was born July 30, 1986, in Taylor County, KY to Jerry and Lisa Young Fields. He departed this life Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY, having attained the age of thirty-seven years and four months.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was former pastor of Gradyville Baptist Church and continued to be the youth song leader. He was Sales Manager for iGo Motors of Campbellsville, KY. He helped the entire sales department all across iGo. His gift for people and sales was unparalleled. He also loved to fish and spend time with his children and family.

Jeanette Wolford, 88, Russell County, KY (1935-2023)

Jeanette Bottom Wolford, of Russell Springs, passed from this life on November 30, 2023, at the Russell County Hospital. She was 88 years of age. She was born May 3, 1935, in the Royville Community of Russell County. She was the daughter of the late Bert and Tressie Bottom.

She was formerly employed by Grider Insurance Agency and as City Clerk of Russell Springs. She was a member of First Baptist Church and attended Faith Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, and talking with friends and relatives.
