Indoor Track and Field heads to Commonwealth College Opener Lindsey Wilson men and women's indoor track & field team heads to Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday as they begin their season with the Commonwealth College Opener hosted by the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center. The open will feature 15 field events and nine track events beginning at 9CT. The field features 26 schools and clubs. Both teams ended their previous season's finishing fourth at the Mid-South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The men had five athletes compete at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship, while the women had three athletes. 34 LWC student-athletes will compete in 15 different events throughout the course of the meet. Beshears invite photographers to contribute to Team KY Gallery From Crystal Staley/James Hatchett Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear invite Kentuckians to lend their creative talents to the Team Kentucky Gallery, which is located in a main hall of the state Capitol in Frankfort. The Beshears believe there is no better place than the Capitol to highlight Kentuckians' voices as represented through art, and the spring 2024 exhibition will showcase photography exclusively. Entrants are encouraged to highlight Kentucky's people, architecture and natural beauty but may also submit photos that showcase their choice of lighting, composition and other purely artistic qualities. Selected photographs will be displayed for a six-month rotation in the Capitol and on the Team Kentucky Digital Art Gallery, where the photographers can provide additional information. After the rotation, photos will be returned to the artists. The current rotation runs until Jan. 9, 2024. The next rotation will begin Jan. 10 and run until June 30, 2024. The deadline to submit artwork for consideration for the spring 2024 exhibit is Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Photos will be selected by Friday, Dec. 29, and photographers will be notified shortly thereafter. Christmas for children By Joyce M. Coomer I see notices of different organizations collecting toys and other items for children for Christmas. This is a good thing, and I'm glad the community supports these efforts. However, I hope what I saw a few years ago hasn't happened since, and I hope that it will not happen this year. A day or two after Christmas, I went to throw something in the dumpster behind the Courthouse Annex. There were three or four large, black garbage bags on top of other items in the dumpster, and as they weren't tied shut, I looked inside. The bags were filled with brand-new stuffed animals, tags from the stores still on them. Thankfully I knew someone who has a couple of family members who run day cares, so I notified them. Through the Fire youth group helps people in need From Lisa Tucker Through the Fire Worship Center's 3-7 year old Sunday School Class has been working hard in November. They have such big hearts to be so young. They asked if they could help some people in need. It's not about what you have or don't have, it's about what you need. The Sunday School Class collected food for a few weeks and delivered to a local Blessing Box. They also stocked their own Blessing Box, located at our church at 24 Burnett Road, Columbia, KY, (off old Burkesville Loop Road near Walmart). Many kids now asked for technological gifts rather than trucks, cars, and dolls, so he had to work his tech elves over time, tiring out their little bodies. "I may have to retire," he proclaimed while blowing his drink to cool it. Mrs. Claus laughed. "You've been threatening that for years, but I haven't noticed you slowing down." He continued. "Yes, but I've got these bum knees now and a hip that kills me every time I hike my leg to get into the sleigh." Santa had been complaining more frequently over the last few years. She continued. "Why don't you stop falling down chimneys and stovepipes and go through doors? And what about all those kids sitting on your knees? No wonder your knees are shot. KSP Post 15 to conduct Traffic Safety Checkpoints From Trooper Jonathan Houk Kentucky State Police Post 15 will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 15 area, which includes Green, Taylor, Marion, Washington, Russell, Casey, Adair, Metcalfe, Monroe, Clinton, and Cumberland counties. These checkpoints will be conducted as part of Post 15's highway safety efforts. Troopers will be checking for violations of Kentucky traffic and regulatory laws relating to motor vehicle equipment safety, licensing of drivers, motor vehicle registration, and operation of motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants. Basketball: LWC dominates in 91-55 victory over Berea The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Berea 91-55 Thursday at Biggers Sports Center. The Blue Raiders (7-2) had five players score double figures led by Amelia Hodges who scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Lucy Patterson recorded 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, Janiya Davis scored 13 while Emily Cox and Jarie Thomas added 11 and 10, respectively. Thomas led team rebounds with 10, being the only player that entered double figures for LWC.
