Vivene Cash, 104, Cumberland County, KY (1919-2023) Lyera Vivene (Higginbotham) Cash, of the Willis Creek Community, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 peacefully at her residence having attained the age of 104 years, 4 months & 13 days - the oldest resident of Cumberland County. She was born in the Willis Creek Community of Clinton County, Kentucky on Wednesday, July 2, 1919 the daughter of Daniel Webster Higginbotham and Addeline Elizabeth (Neathery) Higginbotham. She was a descendant of Several pioneering families in Cumberland & Clinton Counties, Tallent, Neathery, Higginbotham & Riddle. She believed in The Old Methodist Church, and at her passing was a member of Seminary Community Church. She was a homemaker, farmer, store Merchant, former pastors wife. Luke Rich signs to swim NCAA D1 at USI By Mig Feuser Adair Progress Staff Writer Adair County High School's swimming talent Luke Rich signed his intent to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Southern Indiana. "That's a milestone accomplishment," Adair County Schools' Superintendent Jason Faulkner said at the beginning of the event on Monday night, "the likelihood of a high school athlete to go on to the next level in their sport is very, very small. So we are super excited about that." The University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Athletic department is a competitive member of the NCAA Division I and the Ohio Valley Conference. Carol Perkins: Off they go! 1,472 OCC boxes from Metcalfe Co. By Carol Perkins Metcalfe residents (churches and individuals) once again participated in the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Mission, packing shoeboxes that will bless children with supplies, personal hygiene items, and a few toys, but most importantly, with a copy of The Greatest Journey, a New Testament in their language. From congregations to individuals, the county came together, exceeding all expectations. From donating funds to shopping for bargains, sewing, crocheting, embroidering, making beaded necklaces and bracelets, crunchies and hair bows, and baking for our annual bake sale, both children and adults began preparing last January, hoping to exceed last year's 1150 boxes. Our 2023 total was 1472! The final local task began in the basement of the Chamber office as we packed boxes by age groups and gender: (2-4, 5-8, and 9-14). Once filled, we placed them into cartons of sixteen and then sent ninety-five cartons to our regional center in Columbia (what a blessing Denise Glass Fudge and her husband, Mark, were to us.) Dog catnip By Marie Freeman I make chaga tea in my crockpot adding clove and whole star anise. Ordered what I thought was whole star anise, received whole anise seed. Amazon did give a refund (mistake on supplier's end). Upon opening the star anise seed in the kitchen, my little terrier dog, named Mayhem*, went loco. I thought perhaps it was an earthquake:-) I pondered if the very aromatic, pungent scent of anise was involved. With the help of internet and search, I found that anise is dog catnip. Who knew? Basketball: LWC at CU Thanksgiving Classic The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team will continue its holiday tradition this weekend when the Blue Raiders travel up Highway 55 for the Campbellsville Thanksgiving Classic. Lindsey Wilson has won four-straight in the Campbellsville Thanksgiving Classic and looks to extend that streak at 3pmCT on Friday, November 24, 2023, versus Harris-Stowe State (MO). The Blue Raiders will then challenge Simmons College of Kentucky at 1pmCT on Saturday.
