EDA proposes 2 options for prospective company in GRCP

From Columbia Adair Economic Development

The Columbia Adair County Economic Development Authority passed the following motion after exiting the Executive Session on Friday morning, November 17, 2023, to execute a letter of intent to enter into a ground lease agreement with a new prospective company for the Green River Commerce Park:
The Columbia-Adair County Economic Development Authority hereby grants Chairman, Larry Walker, the authority to execute a letter of intent to enter into a ground lease agreement with a new prospective company regarding 2 possible options for land within Green River Commerce Park.
  1. Provide the 150,000 sq ft pad that is currently under construction, and add an additional 50,000 sq ft to the pad located on Lot 3. This would require the EDA to build a separate 40,000 sq ft pad for Phillips Tank & Structure on Lot 2.

  2. Provide a new 200,000 sq ft build ready pad on Lot 8.
An agreement to either of these options will bring a substantial economic impact to the community via significant job creation and capital investment.
The motion was made by Roger Meadows, and seconded by Richard Phelps, with unanimous support by the remaining members present, Mark Dykes and Kenzie Rowe.

Shop safe in-person and online this holiday

From Kim Harwood, Executive Director, Edmonton Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce

As we enter the holiday shopping season, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is sharing tips to keep consumers safe.

While Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales can be a great way to score deals on gifts and big-ticket items, potential scammers and thieves will try to take advantage of unsuspecting shoppers. Tips follow for both in-person and online safe shopping.

In-Person Black Friday Safe Shopping Tips:

* Keep your purse in sight and your wallet in your front pocket.

* Take only one credit card with you. If your wallet gets stolen or misplaced, you'll only need to cancel one card. Avoid carrying a lot of cash. Put your credit card back after every purchase.

Truck route comments on how to get around Square

Has everyone driven the routes to help big rig drivers get around Columbia and avoid the Courthouse Square?

We have another special event coming up - "A Magical Christmas" parade on Dec. 2, 2023 that will close the Square off and drivers who are not familiar with downtown need to know. From what we hear, GPS is no help and drivers wind up on little streets not fun for drivers of vehicles of any size. Letters we received so far are not from actual drivers so we're posting the topic again in hopes those who actually drive the big trucks can share their routes.

Frank Wilcoxson, 86, Taylor County, KY (1937-2023)

Frank Harden Wilcoxson, 86, of Campbellsville, passed away on November 15, 2023 surrounded by family after a long and fruitful life.

He served in the Kentucky National Guard and was a faithful member and deacon at Beech Grove Baptist Church. He owned Wilcoxson Construction and enjoyed building barns for farms across the state. But his favorite work was tending the land, and he raised countless cows, donkeys, horses, pigs and--in the later years--fainting goats. He was a farmer in every sense of the word, cultivating life and growth in all sorts of places, from the fields to the Sunday school classroom. He was also an avid storyteller, a thing those who had the privilege of sitting around his kitchen table know all too well.
