U.S. Drought Monitor says conditions worsened for Columbia From Drought.gov Conditions for Columbia, Kentucky worsened from Moderate Drought (D1) to Severe Drought (D2), according to this week's U.S. Drought Monitor. Columbia has been in drought for the past 5 week(s), since October 10, 2023. J.D. Bell, Russell County, KY (1937-2023) J.D. Bell was born December 24, 1937, in Jamestown, KY to the late Joe and Lucille (Brown) Bell, he passed away at his residence on Tuesday November 14. 2023 surrounded by his family. He retired from the Russell County Board of Education and the Fire Department and was a former member of the Russell County Rescue Squad. He took pride in coaching several little league sports. He was also a UK Wildcat and Russell County Laker fan. He was involved in the WJRS Food for the needy drive for over 30 years and was former superintendent of Temple Hill Community and Jamestown Community Church. KELC Releases October 2023 Unemployment Report From Mike Clark/Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary October 2023 unemployment rate was 4.2%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet (KELC). The preliminary October 2023 jobless rate was up 0.1 percentage point from September 2023 and was up 0.2 percentage point from one year ago. The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate for October 2023 was 3.9%, which was up 0.1 percentage point from September 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. KSP: Victim identified in 45-year-old cold case From Trooper Scottie Pennington Kentucky State Police Post 11 London has positively identified remains found nearly 45 years ago with the help of advanced fingerprint identification technology. Recently, KSP Detective James Royal, with the help of the Kentucky State Police and FBI Laboratories, utilized the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) fingerprint database in an attempt to identify the victim in an ongoing murder investigation. KSP Post 11-London, after notifying the next of kin, announced they have positively identified the man as Michael Murray. Murray was originally from Atlanta, Georgia but was believed to have been living in California around the time of his death.
