Kentucky Color: Citizen's Park II See also: Kentucky Color: Citizen's Park mulberry trees By Billy Joe Fudge At the top of the hill in Citizen's Park on the left of the driveway is this old American Holly. American holly is dioecious, meaning the male and female flowers are on separate trees. Since this old tree has no fruit, I assume it is a male. I believe him to be well over 125 years old and he is in really bad health. His age however, is not the major contributing factor to his failing health and I am having to make several assumptions to rebuild his life story. First, I believe he was planted in the front yard of the residence at some point soon after the house was built. Maury shares good results with hearing aids Shared by Maury Lewis I have been having trouble with my hearing for several years. I have a lot of noise, not ringing, mostly a hissing, scratching kind of sound. I went to a doctor to be tested and they said I needed hearing aids that would cost over $6,000. I took them home one night and could still hear the noises so I did not buy them. Jack Gilbert, 83, Cumberland County, KY (1940-2023) John "Jack" Gilbert, age 83 of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his home. Jack was born on January 02, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a policeman for twenty-three years, was in the Army Reserve for many years and also did carpentry work and photography. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Harold Gilbert and Evelyn Shaller Gilbert and his first wife Becky Gilbert. Over 200 attend LWC's annual Luncheon to Honor Veterans Lindsey Wilson College honored area veterans on Friday, November 10, 2023, when it hosted the 21st Annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon. The heartfelt event was held at the Adair County VFW Post 6097 with more than 200 veterans and their families in attendance. "The College and I are grateful for the relationship we share with the local VFW post," said LWC Dean of Students and luncheon coordinator Chris Schmidt. "Post Quartermaster Ronnie Holt and all the other women and men from this post continue to lead and make a difference in this community. They embody the spirit of service, honor and kindness. Today is about recognizing them for all they have done and continue to do." The veterans enjoyed food provided by the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining and Conference Center and LWC students and staff assisted veterans during the event.
