Adair Fiscal Court October meeting report By Amber Hobaugh The Adair County Fiscal Court met Tuesday night in regular session to a lengthy agenda. Reports from the Road Department, Green River Animal Shelter, Jail, the Budget committee and Treasurer were all approved quickly. Before moving on to the action items part of the agenda, a few changes were requested by Magistrates for roads in their district. Gene Underwood, 91, Taylor County, KY (1932-2023) Rollin "Gene" Underwood of Campbellsville, KY son of the late Leslie Underwood and Elsie Berry Underwood Pierce, was born July 22, 1932 in Taylor County. He died Sunday, October 22, 2023 at age 91. He was an employee of Thor Power Tool and later retired from Fermi-Lab. He loved his family very much. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed bowling, car shows and bird watching. He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. Circle R feature continues to get additions The Columbia Magazine feature story and photos on the Circle R Restaurant displayed at the Trabue Russell House continues to get letters about needed additions as so many are remembered to have been part of that family. In one of the pictures Earl Mann is listed on a photo that is actually of Earl Holt. Both were from Russell County. Inez Rosario, 75, Casey County, KY (1948-2023) Inez Marinero Gomez Rosario passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at her home in Liberty, KY. She was 75 years old. She leaves behind her husband, Juan Manuel Rosario. Inez was a kind woman who enjoyed cooking and gardening roses. She loved her family and grandchildren. Bus Driver Appreciation Day From Donna Grant A Great Big Appreciation goes out to all the Adair County School Bus Drivers. Adair County Busses travel 500,000 miles a year transporting Life's Most Precious Cargo: Our Children. Bus drivers are so much more than just a bus driver. They are: a friend who will listen, a nurse, a caring heart and encourager/motivator among many other things. It takes a special person to be a good bus driver. On Thursday, October 26, 2023, local businesses showed their appreciation to the bus drivers by providing gifts and a meal. First and Farmers Bank-Columbia, Bank of Columbia, Community Trust Bank of Columbia, and United Citizens Bank of Columbia with a delicious meal along with sweatshirts/t-shirts. Annual Christmas Carnival is Dec 2, 2023 From Lauren Holeman Lindsey Wilson College and the Chamber of Commerce invites the Adair County Community to come celebrate the holidays with us! The theme for the annual Columbia Christmas Carnival is "Christmas Around the World". This event will take place from 1pmCT to 4pmCT on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 399 Williams St., Columbia, KY. The Christmas Carnival is meant to bring the community together to celebrate Christmas. Inflatables, crafts, and other fun activities will be available for kids of all ages. In addition, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be there to take pictures and ask for Christmas wish lists between 1:30pmCT and3:30 pmCT. For more information call 270-384-7380. State releases county unemployment data for September 2023 From Mike Clark/Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - Unemployment rates rose in 119 counties between September 2022 and September 2023, and fell in Hancock County, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet.
Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 3.2%. It was followed by Carroll County, 3.3%; Fayette, Marion, Nelson, Oldham, Scott and Shelby counties, 3.4% each; and Anderson, Boone, Cumberland, Spencer and Washington counties, 3.5% each.
