A Magical Christmas is theme of 2023 parade

The annual Christmas in Columbia parade will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 6pmCT.

'A Magical Christmas' is our Christmas Parade Theme. Lance Burton, famed magician and illusionist, will be our Grand Marshal.

There's a new eatery on the Public Square in Jamestown, Reel Java. They are new to town but expanded from their original location in Pumpkin Creek. This plate has thick homemade bread with bacon, lettuce and fried green tomato served with crispy fries.

Infant Joseph Daniel Posey, Adair County, KY

Joseph Daniel Posey, son of Amanda Dawn Posey of Columbia, KY was born on October 11, 2023 at the University of Kentucky Hospital and passed away there on October 17, 2023. He was 6 days of age.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his grandparents: Laurie Boggs Gill of Greensburg, Allen and Leona Posey of Campbellsville; great-grandmothers: Judy Posey and Sheila Boggs both of Greensburg; a sister: Kayleigh Boley of Columbia; a special aunt: Erin Gill of Columbia.

Lester Keith Luttrell, 62, Casey County, KY (1961-2023)

Lester Keith Luttrell, of Windsor, KY, departed this life October 16, 2023. He was 62 years old.

Born May 21st, 1961, in Liberty, KY, Lester was well loved by his daddy, Shinnie, and mommy, Geneva Luttrell. Lester was a master mechanic from a young age and is still praised by many for his workmanship. He enjoyed reading, classic cars, and westerns. He loved to travel and there was very little he had not seen and done. Anyone who has ever met Lester has a story to tell and memories that are sure to bring a smile.

Holiday Miniature Village Competition

Adair County Cooperative Extension Service

This year a new Holiday Miniature Village Competition will coincide with the Homemakers Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Extension Office.

Participants are tasked with creating a dazzling display of miniature holiday figurines and tiny buildings, similar to how some may decorate their homes during the holidays. Anyone can participate, the competition is free. Winners will be determined by popular vote of the public. 1st place will win $50; 2nd place will win $30; and 3rd $20.

Registration for the competition is due by 4:30pmCT on Friday, November 3, 2023. To register, return a signed competition sheet (link below) to the Extension Office at 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY.

Soccer: LWC posted a draw and a loss vs Cumberland

The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer fell to No. 13 Cumberland (TN) 2-0 on Wednesday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium/Ray Wells Field, while the No. 5 ranked men's team played to a 0-0 draw against the Cumberland men.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Lawrenceville, Georgia to take on Georgia Gwinnett. The men play at NoonCT, and the women start at 6pmCT.

CPD: Man arrested for public intoxication and possession

Adair County Headstart reported a suspicious person on Thursday morning, October 19, 2023. A male subject was said to be walking through the parking lot while carrying a stick or cane and behaving oddly.

Contact was made with the individual in a neighboring lot and observed male appeared under the influence. Once the party was placed into custody, he was found to have suspected methamphetamine and syringes on his person.

Holiday Bazaar Vendor Applications now available

The 2023 Holiday Bazaar Vendor Application is now available. The Holiday Bazaar is a local craft market organized by the Adair County Extension Homemakers. Money generated from the Bazaar supports scholarships and educational programs of the Homemakers. The Bazaar will take place from 8pmCT to 2pmCT on Saturday, November 18, at the Extension Office. Please note there are some important changes this year.

Prospective vendors are asked to complete the form (linked below) and return it to the extension office with payment by November 15, 2023, at close of business. Call the extension office at (270) 384-2317 with any questions.

Book Talk with Court Stevens on Oct 24

Join author and LWC Alum Courtney "Court" Stevens and LWC History Professor Dr. Elizabeth Tapscott as they discuss banned books and Court's experiences as an author at 6pmCT on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, in the Thomas D. Clark Reading Room of The Katie Murrell Library.

Courtney "Court" Stevens grew up in the knockabout town of Bandana, Kentucky. She is a former adjunct professor, youth minister, olympic torchbearer, and bookseller at Parnassus Books in Nashville, TN. These days she writes coming-of-truth fiction and is the Executive Director of Warren County Public Library in Bowling Green, KY. She has a pet whale named Herman, a bandsaw named Rex, and a tiny fleet of novels with her name on the spine. More importantly, she is in search of the perfect biscuit recipe and a kind way to get the children who live in her house to pick up after themselves.

This event is presented by The Lindsey Wilson College Cultural Affairs Committee and The Katie Murrell Library. The Katie Murrell Library is located on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College at 210 Lindsey Wilson St., Columbia, KY.

Metcalfe teacher selected for Innovative Teacher Fellowship

Metcalfe County Schools is proud to announce middle school teacher Nikki Jolly is one of ten educators selected for the 2023-2024 Innovative Teacher Fellowship program.

Teachers were selected from applications across the state whose districts are members of the Kentucky Innovative Learning Network (KY ILN). KY ILN is a partnership between local school districts and the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), providing a shared professional learning space for education leaders.

Gary Burton, 74, Casey County, KY (1948-2023)

Gary Dean Burton, 74, of Windsor, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023.

He was born in Windsor on December 13, 1948, a son of the late Dorneth (Owens) and Orvis Burton. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired businessman and farmer.

Shirley Loy, 83, Adair County, KY (1940-2023)

Shirley Ann Booher Loy of Columbia, Kentucky, daughter of the late John Talbert Booher and Sarah Louise Miller Booher, was born on February 3, 1940 in the Glens Fork community of Adair County, Kentucky. She departed this life on October 10, 2023 at the Sunrise Manor in Hodgenville, Kentucky having attained the age 83 years, eight months and seven days.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was of the Methodist faith, and attended the Glens Fork Church of the Good News.
