He was born November 12, 1947, in Yosemite, KY, a son of the late Ernest and Sella Padgett "Bertie" Brown. He was a former Court Security Officer for the Casey County Sheriff's Office, a former employee of the Casey County Board of Education, a former construction worker and a U.S. Army Veteran. Soup and Sandwich Lunch at Trabue House on Oct 18 From David Upchurch The Trabue-Russell House will again host a soup and sandwich lunch from 11amCT to 1pmCT on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. The historic Trabue-Russell House is located at 201 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY. Offerings include White beans and cornbread, Chili and crackers, Kentucky Burgoo, Pimento Cheese Sandwich, Ham and Cheese Sliders, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies, Chess Bars, Brownies, Lemonade, Water and Fresh Apple Cider. Contributing chefs are Robert Flowers, Don and Betty Knifley, Mary Anne Loy, Susan Loy, Richard Phelps, and Mike Watson A beautiful fall day will mean seating can be outside, as well as inside. And everyone will have the chance to see new displays featuring Local State Basketball Tournament Teams, the Adair County Fair, Circle R Restaurant, Meadow Hill Inn, (Four Star) General Barksdale Hamlett, Lance Burton, and Jerry Lee Lewis. The last roses of summer will be on display in the Julia Miller Horton Rose Garden. A medicinal and herb garden is now under construction, led by Sheila Willis and Debbie Cowan. House fire on R Loy Road From Grant Loy, PIO Columbia Adair County Fire Department The Columbia - Adair County Fire Department was dispatched on Saturday morning, October 7, 2023, at approximately 00:15 hours, to 520 R Loy Road to a reported house fire. Upon arrival there was heavy smoke and fire showing from the residence. Firefighters went into an offensive attack on this fire and the fire was quickly extinguished. There were 11 firemen on scene for approximately 2.5 hours. Automatic Mutual Aid was provided by the Breeding Fire Department. A visit to Redwood National and State Parks in California By Robert Ellis Robert Ellis Woodworking A recent West Coast trip took us through the California and Oregon interior as well as their coastlines. Three National Parks were included along the way. The entire trip took in diverse regions and many miles of almond groves, vineyards, waterfalls, mountains and epic forests and coastlines. The photo with this article is of Tammy rounding a curve on a trail in the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway. We saw numerous redwood trees for many miles, and this Parkway in our opinion was the best of the best! Having seen Sequoia National Park (worlds biggest trees in diameter) these redwoods are still VERY large, but grow taller and in much thicker groves than Sequoias.
