Governor rescinding former Labor Cabinet stance on sickouts

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Today, December 31, 2019, Gov. Andy Beshear announced he reversed the prior administration's decision that teachers violated state law when participating in "sickouts" protesting anti-public education policies.

Gov. Beshear said, following an investigation last year by the former Labor Cabinet, nearly 1,000 teachers were wrongly accused of violating state labor laws and threatened with civil penalties of up to $1,000 per violation.

"We are rescinding the prior administration's stance to make clear that our teachers and educators never broke the law and are welcome in Frankfort," said Gov. Beshear. "In order to do what is best for our public education system and each student, we must respect each other and find ways to work together."

Last-second 3 clinches LWC double-OT win

By Chris Wells

Pulaski, TN - Reece Brooks hit a three with 0.7 seconds left in tonight's second overtime to lift the No. 19-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team to a 92-89 win over Martin Methodist (TN) at the Curry Christian Life Center.

Martin Methodist's Felix Hayes three-quarter court heave bounded off the backboard as time expired to give the Blue Raiders their fourth straight win and a second win over the RedHawks this season.

Hayes finished with a game-high 33 points, scoring all 11 RedHawk points in the second overtime and 16 points in the two overtimes.

Brooks proved to be just as clutch, scoring Lindsey Wilson's final nine points of the game -- on two old-fashion three-point plays and the game-winner. Brooks finished with a season-high 28 points.
