Strong 2nd half propels LWC Men's Basketball to 79-69 victory

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team defeated Simmons College of Kentucky by a final score of 79-69 on Tuesday evening at Biggers Sports Center.

The Falcons ended the game shooting an impressive 47.4 percent on 27-of-57 shooting, while the Blue Raiders shot 40.8 percent on 29-of-71 shooting.

David Jones is goin' fishin' in the new year

You saw this fellow in a photo at the recent School Board meeting when his retirement was announced. Now see him in the role he will be moving into full time in the new year. David Jones, featured here on the cover of Crappie USA magazine. His plans are to work at building his year-round fishing guide business, Green River Lake Crappie Trips. On his website, he says, "...I have a desire to spend every minute I can on the lake catching and teaching others about Crappie fishing." Strong team outing lifts LWC Women's Basketball over Simmons

The No. 15-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Simmons College of Kentucky 78-36 on Tuesday evening at Biggers Sports Center. Three Blue Raiders finished the game with double-digit points as 10 LWC players scored in the contest.

Reagan Turner scored a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds as Kiara Pankins finished with 14 points and seven boards. J'Nayah Hall tallied 10 points as Haeli Howard and Jordan McDonald each finished with eight points.

The Blue Raiders shot 43.1 percent from the floor as they connected on 28-of-65 attempts. The LWC defense caused the Falcons problems all night as they shot just 25.5 percent while committing 17 turnovers. The Blue Raiders recorded 10 steals on the night.

KSP: Post 15 to conduct safety traffic checkpoints

Kentucky State Police, Post 15 will be conducting safety traffic checkpoints in the Post 15 area, which includes Washington, Marion, Taylor, Green, Casey, Russell, Adair, Metcalfe, Monroe, Clinton and Cumberland.

Troopers will be checking for impaired drivers, children that are not properly restrained in child safety seats and informing the public about the use of seatbelts.

These safety checkpoints will be conducted in various locations throughout the Post 15 area that are experiencing a high ratio of vehicular crashes resulting in injury and/or death compared to relatively low safety restraint usage ratio.

Tech Center at CU holds pinning ceremony for 206 students

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - "You are the future - Campbellsville University is proud of each and every one of you today," Jason Roop, director of the Campbellsville University Virginia Ponser Flanagan Technology Training Center, said.

The Tech Center held its largest pinning ceremony October 27, 2019 honoring 206 graduates in the ceremony at the university's Ransdell Chapel.

LWC Volleyball defeats Reinhardt in NAIA opener

Sioux City, IA - No. 10 Lindsey Wilson volleyball opened up its 2019 NAIA National Tournament with a 3-2 victory over No. 24 Reinhardt (GA) today at the Tyson Events Center.

The Blue Raiders (30-5) move to 1-0 in Pool G while the Eagles (33-3) fall to 0-1 in pool play. Eastern Oregon (30-3) defeated Madonna (MI) (25-13) 3-1 in the first Pool G match of the day.

KSP: Post 15 Monthly Activity Report for November 2019

During the month of November 2019, there were 25 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

During the month of November 2019, there were
  • 1214 citations written
  • 245 courtesy notices written
  • 482 complaints answered
  • 90 motorists assisted
  • 60 criminal cases opened
  • 284 criminal arrests made
There was one fatal collision during the month of November in the Post 15 area.

CHFS, KDE partner to improve student care and wellbeing

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) are collaborating on a framework to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of Kentucky's youth, called Kentucky CARES.

Kentucky CARES is a grassroots prevention campaign aimed at addressing the risk and protective factors associated with multiple forms of youth violence in schools, homes and communities.

"This platform seeks to empower students, parents and caregivers, educators and mentors to engage with youth to promote resiliency and reduce vulnerably and violence," said Adam Meier, CHFS Secretary. "By promoting engagement and participation with and among youth, Communities are Acting to Reach, Engage and Support (CARES)."

LWC Basketball hosts Simmons today at Biggers Sports Center

Kentucky State Police Post 15 will be at Kroger, 181 S. U.S. 127, Russell Springs, KY, for their annual Cram the Cruiser Food Drive Event on Sunday, December 8, 2019, from 10amCT to 3pmCT.

Our hope is to ensure as many people as possible do not go hungry this holiday season. We will collect and distribute non-perishable food items to families, food pantries, and churches in need throughout out service area. Post 15 covers the following counties: Washington, Marion, Taylor, Green, Casey, Russell, Adair, Metcalfe, Monroe, Clinton and Cumberland.

Youngest female state rep in state history takes office

As the time grew near for Samara Heavrin's oath of office ceremony Monday, the lobby of the Grayson County Government Annex began to fill with well-wishers. To accommodate the guests, tables were removed from the fiscal court meeting room and chairs rearranged in neat rows.

The 27-year-old Republican, who becomes the youngest woman ever to serve in the Kentucky General Assembly, shared the spotlight with her parents, Ray and Monica Heavrin, as they each rested a hand on a Bible given to Samara by her late grandmother, Barbara Bishop.

LWC Women's Soccer falls to IN Wesleyan in NAIA 2nd round

Orange Beach, AL - The No. 8-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team fell to No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan 1-0 after a IWU goal midway through the second half in their second-round matchup at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

Indiana Wesleyan scored in the 63rd minute when Lauren Turner played a ball into the penalty area that Emily Carter one touched past Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Jovana Ivanovic.

Tamara Sue Beard, 54, Russell Springs, KY (1964-2019)

Tamara Sue Beard of Russell Springs passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Russell County Hospital. She was 54 years old.

The funeral service for Tamara Sue Beard will be held at 2pmCT on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Scott Proctor and Bro. Billy Dunbar officiating. Interment will follow in the Lucenda Cemetery.

LWC Volleyball opens NAIA National Championship Pool Play

Sioux City, IA - The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team begins pool play at the 2019 NAIA National Championship presented by Marriott South Sioux City Riverfront on Tuesday at the Tyson Events Center.

The No. 10-ranked Blue Raiders open pool play at 11amCT on Tuesday against No. 24 Reinhardt (GA). Lindsey Wilson faces Madonna (MI) at NoonCT on Wednesday and No. 7 Eastern Oregon at NoonCT on Thursday.

Following the conclusion of all pool play matches, the top two teams from each of the eight pools advance to the 16-team, single-elimination bracket scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The first round and quarterfinal matches are played on Friday, while the semifinals and championship matches are scheduled for Saturday.
