Gary L. Long, age 61, of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky.

The Funeral Service will be conducted on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 2pmCT in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky with burial in the Burkesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends until the funeral hour on Sunday.

Naomi Mae Cave, 81, of Columbia died Thursday, November 14, 2019 in Columbia.

Funeral services will be 1pmCT Monday, November 18, 2019 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with entombment in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8pm at the funeral home and will continue on Monday morning until time for the funeral.

Edna Myrtle York, 94, Jamestown, KY (1925-2019)

Edna Myrtle York of Jamestown passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. She was 94 years old.

The funeral service for Edna Myrtle York will be held at 2pmCT on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Barry Bradshaw and Bro. Tony Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in the Samuel York Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 9:30amCT on Sunday to 2pmCT on Sunday.

Frankfort, KY - The Governor's School for Entrepreneurs (GSE), a residential summer program where 72 Kentucky teens focus on product innovation and business model design, has opened applications for its summer 2020 program. The 2020 GSE session will take place June 7 through June 27, 2020 at Northern Kentucky University.

The Governor's School for Entrepreneurs brings students from across the state into a three-week residential program. The program immerses students in a creative space and equips them with the tools needed to unleash their innate entrepreneurial spirits for the betterment of Kentucky. As part of the program, teams of high school students develop a business model, design a prototype and pitch their startup to a large audience and a panel of judges. GSE teaches the opportunities, benefits and pitfalls of taking a business concept from the idea phase to pitching it to potential investors.

LWC Volleyball advances to MSC Tournament finals

Bowling Green, KY - Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson volleyball cruised into the Mid-South Conference finals with a 3-0 win over Life (GA) on Friday night at Bowling Green Arena.

The Blue Raiders (28-5) advance to face second-seeded Thomas More (KY) at 6pmCT on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Lindsey Wilson has won 14 straight matches in the Mid-South Conference Tournament. The last loss came in the tournament finals in 2014.

Chili Fundraiser for Knifley Chapel Youth Group

Knifley Chapel Youth Group will hold a fundraiser in the basement at Knifley Chapel Brethren In Christ Church, 6039 Elkhorn Road, Knifley, KY, on Saturday evening, November 16, 2019, from 5pmCT to 7pmCT.

The cost is $6.00 per plate. This includes a soup or chili, grilled cheese or cornbread, a dessert and a drink.

Proceeds will go to help send our youth group to Xtreme Winter in Gatlinburg this December.

CPD: Class D escapees sought

On Friday afternoon, November 15, 2019, at 4:30pmCT, two inmates lodged with Adair Regional jail walked away from the Class D facility.

Ryan Ellis, 26, of Nancy Kentucky and Tyler Hollan, 23, of Albany were serving the remainder of their time within the Class D work release facility. They will now be facing an additional five year sentence each upon capture. Ellis before his escape had a possible release date pending an upcoming parole hearing.

Ellis is a 5'8, 170lbs caucasian, Hollan stands 6', 158lbs and is also caucasian.

If anyone has any information leading to the arrest and capture of Ellis and Hollan please notify local authorities. As always you can remain anonymous.

Students encouraged to apply for Ag scholarships

KDA-KHSAA Partnership Awards Six Scholarships to Kentucky Student-Athletes

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky student-athletes who are involved in agriculture are invited to apply for one of six scholarships and recognition as a 2020 Kentucky Ag Athlete of the Year.

The scholarships are payable to an institution of higher learning. Funding for the scholarships comes from the KDA's "Ag Tag" program, which is funded by voluntary donations from Kentucky motorists when they buy or renew their farm vehicle license plates. No state taxpayer dollars will be used to fund the scholarship awards.

Student-athletes must apply online by Jan. 24. To apply, go to khsaa.org/ge83-agriculture-athlete-of-the-year-scholarship-application.

The program is a partnership of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA).

LWC Wrestling hosts NAIA Challenge Duals on Saturday

The No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team is set to host the NAIA Challenge Duals this Saturday at the Holloway Health and Wellness Center. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. CT.

In total, the Blue Raiders welcome 10 programs to the campus of Lindsey Wilson College as LWC will wrestle two separate squads at the event. The duals will feature seven programs that are ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll.

Competing is No. 3 Marian (IN), No. 7 Cumberlands (KY), No. 9 Southeastern (MO), No. 19 Williams Baptist (MO), (RV) Jamestown (ND), (RV) West Virginia Tech, Lincoln (IL), Thomas More (KY), Bluefield (WV) and Lyon (AR). In total, the rosters bolster 34 ranked NAIA Wrestlers including three of the No. 1 ranked wrestlers of their respective weight classes.

LWC Women's Soccer battles No. 17 Cumberlands on Sat

The No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team sits one match away from claiming the 2019 Mid-South Conference Tournament championship. The Blue Raiders battle No. 17-ranked Cumberlands (KY) in the championship game at Jim Ross Field in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Saturday at 11amCT.

The Blue Raiders women's soccer team (14-3-1) defeated Life (GA) in the tournament quarterfinals by a final score of 7-1. Lindsey Wilson earned a berth in the championship match after defeating Cumberland (TN) in the semifinals by a final score of 4-2.
