Red Lick United Methodist Church Harvest Day

Red Lick United Methodist Church will be holding their Harvest Festival on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at 11amCT.

Weather permitting there will be a hayride and outdoor service. Ed Jessee and Stacy Beard are roasting a pig and there will be harvest-themed side dishes, and, of course, desserts! Everyone is welcome to attend.

Red Lick UMC is located at 3976 Mosby Ridge Road, Edmonton KY. We would be pleased to have you come and celebrate the Harvest!

Final two appearances by The Strength Team

The Strength Team crusade is underway at the Adair County High School gym. The team will perform in front of a live audience both Saturday and Sunday evenings. There is no admission, and all ages will enjoy the great feats of strength that the strength team performs.

The Strength Team is a group of professional athletes who are visiting Columbia this weekend, sponsored by Columbia Baptist Church, performing feats of strength to help deliver motivational messages.

The group will be appearing at Adair County High School, 526 Indian Dr, Columbia, KY, again at 7pmCT on Saturday and Sunday, October 26 and 27, 2019.

Waterfowl quota hunts at Rowan, Franklin hatcheries

Apply Soon for Youth-Mentor and Mobility Impaired Waterfowl Quota Hunts at State Fish Hatcheries

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife

Frankfort, KY - Online applications are being taken Nov. 1-15 for youth and mobility-impaired waterfowl quota hunts at two state-owned fish hatcheries near Frankfort and Morehead. Hunts will be available each Saturday and Sunday in January 2020.

Hunts will be conducted at the Minor Clark Fish Hatchery in Rowan County and the Peter W. Pfeiffer Fish Hatchery in Franklin County.

Coming events in Adair planned by Chamber of Commerce

At its October meeting, the Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce Board went over special events coming up this season. Items folks can make plans for included:

- Treats on the Town on Thursday, October 31, 2019, Halloween, from 4 to 7pmCT. Debbie Selby at bank of Columbia is taking reservations;

- The second Food Truck Day is Friday, November 8 in conjunction with To the Nines; - Christmas in Columbia is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2019. Carnival/arts and crafts will be at the Lindsey Wilson College Holloway Center.

- The annual Christmas parade, with the theme "Lights Over Columbia", will be held at 6pmCT December 7.

Grand Marshall at the Christmas in Columbia parade will be former Kentucky Speaker of the House, and Adair County native, Jody Richards.

The annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas Gathering will be held at the Pines, Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 6pmCT.

Strength Team visits AYDC

Making better choices was the message delivered to the students at Adair Youth Development Center on Friday morning during a presentation by The Strength Team, a group of professional athletes who are visiting Columbia this weekend, performing feats of strength to help deliver motivational messages.

LWC Men's Basketball opens season vs Ohio State-Mansfield

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team opens the 2019-20 season at 3pmCT Saturday, October 26 against Ohio State- Mansfield in Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.

The Blue Raiders are coming off a 16-15 season with a 6-8 Mid-South Conference record. Lindsey Wilson averaged 78.6 points per game last season while allowing an average of 70.8 points. LWC averaged more assists, rebounds, blocks, and steals than its counterparts.

Patricia Ann Judd Rogers, 76, Greensburg, KY (1943-2019)

Patricia Ann Judd Rogers of Greensburg passed away Wednesday at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. She was 76 years old.

The funeral services for Patricia Ann Judd Rogers will be conducted at 1pmCT on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Saturday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT on Sunday until time of the funeral service.

Cadets Graduate from KSP Training Academy

Dean Lunz Jr., of Edmonton, KY, and Aron Jones, of Somerset, KY, will be assigned to KSP Post 15 in Columbia. Lunz is Salutatorian and was recognized with the Ernie Bivens Award for Cadet Class 99. Jones was one of 11 cadets to earn an Associates degree during his training.

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky State Police Academy presented diplomas to 48 new troopers at a graduation ceremony held in Frankfort today. The graduates consisted of a traditional class beginning on May 12, 2019 and a Law Enforcement Accelerated Program (LEAP) class, joining on August 4, 2019. Applicants for the fifth LEAP class were required to have two years of service in Kentucky and completion of their DOCJT training no later than May 1, 2017. The total number of graduates were among the 89 who initially reported.

KSP Commissioner Rick Sanders addressed the cadets during graduation and talked about two pieces of equipment they were issued.

LWC Football travels to Pikeville to continue MSC play

The No. 8-ranked football team plays against Mid-South Conference opponent (RV) Pikeville (Ky.) on Saturday, October 26 in Pikeville, KY, at 5pmCT at the Hambley Athletic Complex.

The Blue Raiders (7-0, 4-0 MSC) are back in action after defeating Thomas More (Ky.) 55-21 last weekend on the road. Lindsey Wilson's offense was able to create 483 total yards, including 406 in the air and 77 on the ground. The Blue Raider defense recorded three interceptions, including two pick-sixes - by James Todd and Cordarien Trice -- and 68 total tackles. It was Todd's third interception of the season.

Vicki Lynn Emerson of Russell Springs died Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington. She was 62 years old.

LWC students among new Prichard Committee members

Lexington, KY - Community leaders, educators and students were among the seven new members named recently to the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence.

Lindsey Wilson College students Don Trowell and Khamari Brooks were named members. The Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence is an independent, nonpartisan, citizen-led organization working to improve education in Kentucky - early childhood through postsecondary.

Leon Burris, 72, Adair County, KY (1947-2019)

Leon Burris of Milltown, Kentucky, son of the late Cleo Burris and Roy Keltner Burris, was born on Friday, March 14, 1947 in Green County and departed this life on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. He was 72 years, seven months and 8 days of age.

The funeral services will be conducted at 1pmCT Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Bro. Jerry Judd will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 5-8pm Friday and after 7am Saturday until time of the funeral service.
