ACSO: Logging accident requires Air Evac

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

The Adair County Sheriff's Office responded to a logging accident 16 miles east of Columbia in the Neatsville community of Adair County this afternoon.

Adair county 911 received the call at 1:57pmCT of a 23 year old that had been struck by a falling limb. According to witness statements given to the Sheriff's Office, David Miller, age 23, of Pellyton, was cutting a tree down for harvest when a large limb came down unexpectedly. Another logger had attempted to alert Miller to the danger, but the noise from the chainsaw made it impossible. The limb struck David in the head, busting through his hard hat.

Due to the distance and rough terrain at the accident site, the Adair County Fire Department, Knifley Fire Department and Emergency Management were notified for additional staff and resources to assist.

EMS worked to stabilize the patient and treat him on scene before transport. A landing zone for air medical was established at EMS request at a local church in the area. Miller was loaded into an Air Evac helicopter and transported to University of Kentucky.

OCC National Collection Week, November 18-25, 2019

National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is Monday, November 18, 2019, through Monday, November 25, 2019.

The theme for 2019 is "Mission Possible." The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to provide local churches who are our ministry partners around the world with shoebox gifts as a way to reach children in their communities. For many children, this is the first gift they will ever receive. More important than the items inside the shoebox, the gifts are an opportunity to share God's love and the Good News of Jesus Christ with children and families in need.

"I sincerely hope and pray that your church/organization will give serious consideration to participating in this ministry opportunity," said Adair County Relations Coordinator Mark Fudge.

Again this year, the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene Wheet Fellowship Hall, located at 1200 Jamestown Street, Columbia, will be the drop off location for Adair County.

The dates and times for drop off are as follows:
  • Monday, November 18, 2019, from 5pmCT to 7pmCT
  • Tuesday, November 19, 2019, from 11:30amCT to 1:30pmCT
  • Wednesday November 20, 2019, from 5pmCT to 7pmCT
  • Thursday, November 21, 2019, from 9amCT to 11amCT
  • Friday, November 22, 2019, from 10amCT to 12pmCT
  • Saturday, November 23, 2019, from 9amCT to 11amCT

Governor reorganizes State Fire Commission

By Nicole Burton

Frankfort, KY - At the request of Kentucky's three primary firefighting associations, Gov. Matt Bevin today issued an executive order that abolishes the former Commission on Fire Protection Personnel Standards and Education and recreates it with new membership requirements as the Kentucky Fire Commission.

The membership changes involve replacing former firefighter roles - which previously did not include any training or experience requirements - with roles that require future appointees to possess a minimum of 400 hours of training for career firefighters and 150 hours of training for volunteer firefighters, including five years of experience in the fire services.

Prior firefighter members were appointed by the Governor without a nomination process, but this reorganization requires the Kentucky Firefighters Association (KFA), the Kentucky Professional Firefighters Association (KPFA), and the Kentucky Association of Fire Chiefs (KAFC) to submit nominations for career and volunteer firefighter members to the Governor.
