Metcalfe County Christmas Parade: Sat 13 Dec 2014

The Metcalfe County Christmas Parade will be Saturday, December 13, 2014 beginning at 1pmCT at Metcalfe Elementary School, 206 Education Way, Edmonton, KY. The route will be the same as in previous years, from the school to and around the square and back to the school. There are no entry fees. If one wishes to be judged, one must be at the school by 11amCT. If one wishes to just be a part of the parade, one must be at the school by noon. Mr. Charles William (Old Man Bill) Mattingly, Marion Co., KY (1932-2014)

As a young man, Mr. Mattingly started farm work for Reuben Blandford in Marion County; soon after, he made farming his career. He had an enduring love for all things outdoors, and was very passionate about growing roses. Although never proven, some claim he could even coax rose sprouts from a rock. Mr. Mattingly made a profession of faith in Christ, and was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Loretto.

Mr. Charles William "Old Man Bill" Mattingly, departed this life at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY, on Thursday, December 11, 2014. He was 82 years of age.

There will be funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Mattingly on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 9amCT/10amET at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY 42718. Bro. Jeff Edwards will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Liberty Cemetery, Marion County, KY. John-Paul Williamson earns national B cut in Indianapolis

John-Paul Williamson has now qualified for two events at the NAIA Indoor National Championships. In just two events into the 2014-15 indoor season, the Blue Raider men's team has already achieved three national standards.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Junior John-Paul Williamson earned his second national cut of the 2014-15 indoor track and field season on Friday night. Williamson completed the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:13.37 in fourth place at the Friday Night Special hosted by the University of Indianapolis (IN.).

He previously earned a national 'A' cut on Dec. 6 in the 3,000 meter run event after posting a time of 8:39.67, finishing second in the race. In just two events into the 2014-15 indoor season, the Blue Raider men's team has already achieved three national standards. Carmetrick Ross earned a 'B' cut in the high jump last weekend with a height of six feet, eight inches. - News from Lindsey Wilson College

Maxwell Glen Edwards, Casey Co., KY (1939-2014)

He was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of Lincoln County, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of the late William Bill and Bertha Buck Edwards. His companion of 30 years, Betty Cook, survives. He leaves four direct living descendants.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University will award 210 graduate and undergraduate degrees in two ceremonies in her December commencement today, Friday, December 12, in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, at 1pmCT/2pmET and another one at 3pmCT/4pmET. Dr. Michael V. Carter, who is serving in his 16th year as president, and Dr. Frank Cheatham, who is senior vice president for academic affairs, will confer the degrees and present the students' names, respectively, at both ceremonies.

KY Public Health reporting widespread flu activity

Your Health and Flu Season: State level has increased from 'regional' to 'widespread' the highest level of flu activity

Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) officials reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this week that the influenza (flu) activity level in the state has increased from "regional" to "widespread." Widespread activity is the highest level of flu activity, which indicates increased flu-like activity or flu outbreaks in at least half of the regions in the state. The activity levels for states are tracked weekly as part of the CDC's national flu surveillance system.
