Letter: Question about the Chicken in the Chicken Soup

Comments re photo 58023 Epicurean Kentuckian Chicken Noodle Soup and Salad

Lois Cunningham writes:
This looks perfect for a cold day, but was wondering "real chicken" as opposed to "fake chicken"?? - Lois Cunningham
Valid Question - Real boiled chicken. Big difference. At least one or two, maybe more local restaurants actually cut chicken strips from real chicken. I think I can tell the difference from the formed product. - EW

Vicky Pike: Adair County line sure looks good after day in city

Gas for $2.33 was seen along the way, howeve

By Victoria Pike

While traveling through Elizabethtown last night we saw gas at $2.33 at several stations around the mall area.

A backup on I 65 necessitated coming through Fort Knox to get home. How city folks have any minds at all is beyond me!

One night I sat at Brooks Road for two hours and went 1.7 miles.

The Adair County line sure looks good after a day in the big city of Louisville. - Victoria Pike

AC Chamber sends BBB Tips on Holiday Scams

Better Business Bureau Bulletin submiitted by Sue Stivers

'Tis the season for scammers and schemers! Whether it's on the internet, at the store, or at your very own front door, BBB warns to "watch out" for these holiday scams.

Charity Schemes - Scammers will call you on the phone or knock on your front door. They'll wear seasonal outfits, dress in familiar looking uniforms, and carry forms of identification that look real. They'll convince you to give with stories that tug at your heart. Before you give, do your homework. Check out the charity at www.give.org. Don't fall for high-pressure tactics. Avoid "charities" whose representatives won't answer reasonable questions, such as how the money will be spent. Never supply credit card information over the phone, and never give cash or write checks payable to an individual solicitor.

Twas the Day Before Christmas…In Columbia Parade (Parody)

Twas the day before Christmas
In Columbia Parade
Lots of creatures were stirring
In their haste for the day

Still lots to be done
So much work still to be
For this annual event
The Chamber sponsors, with glee

The Grand Marshals were chosen
WWII vets it would be
And tracking them down
Was the task just for me

While other preparations
Were busily done
For to pull this day off
Takes an army - not just one

And earlier that day
The town square was a buzz
With shoppers and people
Ye Olde Shoppes was the hub

And the Holloway Center
With children was filled
For Christmas activities
And Santa was a thrill

"On Debbie, On Brenda, On Roger and Chris
On Kerry, On Kim, On Ann and the rest
To the Square, to the route
To line them all up
The floats and the horses
And the sirens that blast
The tinsel, the trappings
This Christmas will last"

And so it did happen
For the 24th time
And Christmas in Columbia
Was truly sublime.
- Ellen Zornes, December 2014
