David Lee Shearer, Adair County, KY (1942-2014)

He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War; a member of Sparksville Baptist Church and a former welder at Majestic Yachts. He was a native of Adair County and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Willie & Nellie Sullivan Shearer.Hiswife, Charlotte Kay Tackett Shearer, survives. He leaves four direct living descendants.

The Best-A-Thon at Adair County Primary Center, 158 Col. Casey Drive, Columbia, KY 42728, is in full swing this morning. We have students doing their best in a variety of venues that include sports, art, sculpture, dance, music, literature, drama, gymnastics, technology, games of skill, crafting, building and more.

Thanks to many family volunteers and the support of the Columbia Christian Church team, we are able to provide all of these areas for our students.

The Adair County Grand Jury has returned indictments against six individuals on Wednesday, 25 Nov 2014, in Adair Circuit Court, Adair Judicial Center, 201 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Three indicted for flagrant non-support, one involving methamphetamines, one on one count receiving stolen property and criminal mischief; and one man faces five indictments, two counts each, of receiving stolen property.

She was the matriarch of a large, highly regarded family. She was the daughter of the late Lucian and Nannie Bradley Luttrell and the widow of Willis Roberton. She leaves 33 direct living descendants. She was a homemaker and a member of New Friendship United Baptist Church.

Ben Arnold petition in Adair Circuit Court requests new election

Petition alleges problems with city voting lines, failure to supply enough ballots, county residents receiving city ballots improperly, city voters being denied ballots, improper voter machine tallies for write in votes, and instructions to poll workers to give city ballots to persons who paid taxes in the city without a check to see that they were residents. The petition asks that the mayoral election be invalidated and that at new election be held, among other things.

A challenge to the Mayoral Election of 4 Nov 2014, has been filed on behalf of Ben Arnold, write in candidate, and others: Ruth Smith, a registered voter in Adair County; William Burton, a resident of Adair County, and a registered voter in the City of Columbia, and Andrea Waggener, a resident of Adair County and a registered voter in the City of Columbia.

Their petition was filed in Adair Circuit Court Monday, December 1, 2014 alleging a number of irregularities in the November 4, 2014, Columbia City Election and asks that the results of Mayoral Election of November 4, 2014, be invalidated and that a special election for the office of mayor be held at the next available opportunity pursuant to KRS 120.165.

In a final act, Councillor June Parson, said, she wanted to fulfill a request by the late Ralph Willis to have a Columbia Street named in honor of Civil Right Leader Martin Luther King, the the Council fulfilled her request. Parson said that when Mr. Willis requested that Burkesvillle Street be renamed in honor of Dr. King, the process hit a snag because it is a state highway. She suggested, instead, another busy street, Bomar Heights, be re-named Martin Luther King Boulevard, and the council agreed, with a 5-0 vote. Councillors Charles Grimsley, Ron Rogers, Robert Flowers, and Linda Waggener joined in a 5-0 vote to make the change.

Green Co. man dies as result of big fire at Hillview Terrace Apts

A Green County man has died as a result of a fire on Monday afternoon, December 1, 2014, at at Hillview Terrace Apartments on Hodgenville Avenue in Greensburg, KY.

Jerry Smith, 60, Greensburg, KY, was pronounced dead at the scene by Green County Coroner Carol Ray.

The Kentucky State Police Arson Unit is investigating the fire. More details are pending a news release from the Kentucky State Police, Post 15, Columbia, KY.

Hello , My name is Bruce Brown from Paducah KY. My Grandfather, Harry Ward from Bardwell KY passed away afew years ago and I have been going through his pictures. He has a lot from his time in Europe in WWII.

I was lucky that he managed to write down the names and home towns from several people in his pics.

However sometimes his handwriting was small and hard to read. I found this one of Findel Coomer from Columbia, KY, but was unable to find him on your list of local veterans.

Maybe "Findel" was his middle name or nick name. I would hope some of his family is still around and would like this picture. I possible have more. I see in your area there are lots of Coomer's . The Lindsey Wilson College chapter of Lambda Pi Eta inducted nine new members on Monday, December 1, 2014, at a ceremony held in the J.L. Turner Leadership Center.

Lambda Pi Eta is the National Communication Association’s official honor society at four-year colleges and universities. LWC’s communication program is one of the college’s more popular majors. Many students double-major in communication with another program to give them a broader educational base.
