LWC Men's Golf receiving votes in NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll

Blue Raiders sit three spots out of the top 25 with 74 total voting points

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson men's golf is receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Poll, the national office announced on Friday.

The Blue Raiders received 74 total voting points to sit just three spots outside of the poll. They trail Texas at Brownsville (79), Rocky Mountain (MT) (82) and No. 25 Indiana Wesleyan (84).

James Edwin Shirley, 92, Adair Co. KY (1922-2014)

He was a 1940 graduate of Columbia High School and 1942 graduate of Lindsey Wilson College. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946. After training at Ft. Stevens, Oregon and Camp Howze, Texas, he landed in La Havre, France as a replacement soldier after the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He joined the 106th Infantry Division, 589th Field Artillery Battalion and remained with this division in Belgium and Germany until the war ended. James E. remained in Germany with the allied occupation, until his return to the U.S. for discharge in 1946. James was a faithful member of the Columbia Christian Church, active in the Men for Christ organization, a Kentucky Colonel, and served on the board of directors of several organizations, including: Kentucky and Adair County Cattlemen's Association, Kentucky Farm Bureau, Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Haven Hill Cemetery and a member of VFW Post 6097. He was also an avid UK basketball fan.

Norma Dee Turner, Adair County, KY (1963-2014)

She attended the Bloomington Chapel Church and was a former employee of Westlake Regional Hospital. She was a native of Adair County, KY and was a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Hob and Lela Hadley Richard. Her husband, Ted Turner, survives. She leaves a large, respected family. Her final resting place will be in Bear Wallow Cemetery, Christine, KY.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - A national reading initiative for early childhood readers was recently held at Campbellsville University at the School of Education. Jumpstart: Read for the Record mobilizes millions of children and adults to celebrate literacy by participating in the largest shared reading experience.

Ellen Hamilton-Ford, assistant professor of early childhood education, has run the reading program since CU's involvement in 2008.

James Michael Wethington, Casey County, KY (1946-2014)

He was an Air Force veteran, mechanic, worked on airplane engines, and installed garage doors. He enjoyed life and loved to hunt and fish. He was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of Juanita Belton Wethington and the late James Oval Wethington. His beloved wife, Glordean Lee Wethington, survives. He leaves seven direct living descendants.

The Church has two reasons for being named Bear Wallow, according to very elderly community members. Oscar Smiley, Fannie and Bessie Curry are a partial list who were interviewed by me several years ago.

Kroger adds 125 Kentucky Proud products at 88 KY stores

LOUISVILLE, KY (Fri 7 Nov 2014) - Dozens of Kentucky family farms and small businesses will benefit from a historic partnership between Kentucky Proud and Kroger, Agriculture Commissioner James Comer announced today.

Next to a Kentucky Proud display at the Springhurst Kroger supermarket on Brownsboro Road, Commissioner Comer said that Kroger will sell 125 products from 34 Kentucky Proud producers in 88 stores throughout Kentucky. Comer said the initial purchase filled a 10,000-square-foot warehouse and totaled $350,000, a record for a single transaction in the history of Kentucky Proud.

COLUMBIA, KY - Business ideas were on display Thursday afternoon, November 6, 2014, in the Lindsey Wilson College Norma and Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship.

A total of 93 LWC students competed on 36 teams in the third-annual Center for Entrepreneurship Expo.

The winning idea was Thread Watch, a smartphone app that updates users about their clothing interests. The team included: Julian Edmonson of Fort Worth, TX; Joseph Fawns of Shelbyville, KY; Josh Harney of Columbia, KY; Stephen Turner of Hartsville, TN.
