Robert Brock will portray Mark Twain in Russell Springs, KY

Robert Brock portrays Mark Twain for Kentucky Chautauqua. Robert F. Brock is an assistant professor of theatre at Lindsey Wilson College. He recently served as the artistic director at Kentucky Repertory Theatre in Horse Cave. Prior to that, he served as the theatre's education director for four years.

The event is free and open to the public

SOMERSET, KY (October 9, 2014) - The Somerset Community College (SCC) Student Government Association, together with Kentucky Chautauqua(r), will present Mark Twain: American Icon on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 1pmCT/2pmET. at SCC's Russell Center, 848 W. Steve Wariner Drive in Russell Springs, KY. There is no charge and all are invited.

Born November 30, 1835 in Florida, Missouri, Mark Twain (originally named Samuel Clemens) penned several novels including two major classics of American literature, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He was also a riverboat pilot, humorist, lecturer, journalist, publisher and inventor. His mother, Jane Lampton, was born in Adair County, Kentucky, where she met Clemens' father, who was clerking at a law office in Columbia, Kentucky. They married and spent two years living in Columbia, KY before moving to Tennessee and eventually to Missouri.

Frances Johnson, Taylor County, KY (1924-2014)

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Christian Church. She was a proud graduate of Centre College in 1946, having received a Bachelor of Science Degree. She was a retired math teacher and librarian, church secretary, volunteer at The Daughter's of American Revolution and employee of Dewure High School in Zinbabwe and an avid supporter of Central African Mission Service. She was a distinguished member of a prominent old line Adair County, KY, family. She was the daughter of the late Horace Cundiff and Victoria Hughes Walker, and the widow of Doug Johnson, her husband of over 44 years. She leaves 13 direct living descendants. She will be laid to rest in Columbia, Adair County, KY

They are a vivid part of my barefoot summer memories down in Louisiana--their rhythmic calls especially late in the afternoon, so intense sometimes it would overwhelm all other sounds reverberating through the live oaks.

USDA emphasis on Farmers Mkts helps Specialty Growers

USDA announces Specialty Block Grants totalling $302,620.11 to strengthen markets for Specialty Crops in Kentucky. The latest round of grant recipients includes the Kentucky Blueberry Growers Association, 1103 W Stockton St, Edmonton, KY 42129, to help introduce new blueberry value-added products into public schools and retail markets by increasing the capability of local blueberry producers to sort, wash, and dry blueberries.

FRANKFORT, KY The Kentucky Department of Agriculture was awarded a Specialty Crop Block Grant for $302,620.11 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to work with the University of Kentucky and other organizations and commodity groups to strengthen markets for specialty crops in Kentucky.

"This funding will greatly enhance our efforts to help Kentucky's specialty crop businesses grow and prosper," Agriculture Commissioner James Comer said. "This investment in our specialty crop industry will boost Kentucky's rural economy."

LOUISVILLE, KY - The former president of Central Kentucky Glass Company, headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky, was sentenced to 27 months in prison by Senior District Judge Thomas B. Russell on Friday, October 3, 2014, after pleading guilty to a single count of wire fraud in connection with a multi-million dollar contract at Fort Knox High School, announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky. Central Kentucky Glass Company (CKG) was charged separately in a grand jury indictment, with wire fraud, mail fraud and major fraud against the United States.

Moonlight Sonata - Earth perfectly lodged between Sun & Moon

Great night (Morning) for insomniacs, moonbats, dingbats and just plain curious ole folk.

At 4:15 slo-time, with the temperature hovering around 58, no wind and a crystal clear sky, the Earth's shadow started it's slow slide across the face of the moon. By 5:30am the Earth seemed to be perfectly lodged directly betwixt the Sun and the Moon and the cosmic dust created a strange hue on the dimly lit lunar landscape.

As I write this at 5:42, the moon is still covered and like a music lover who can't play or sing a single note but whose heart and soul still soars with the sounds of a beautiful score, I don't have the photographers skills but would dearly love to see a photographic memory of the beautiful event. y Knifley (I think.
