COLUMBIA, KY Heidi Huffman, a 5-5 guard from Mercer County High School, signed an NAIA scholarship to join the Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team for the 2015-16 season, Blue Raiders' head coach John B. Wethington announced on Wednesday, 1 Sep 2014.

Huffman led the state of Kentucky her junior season with 104 made three-point attempts, averaging 3.3 makes per game. She averaged a team-high 14.9 points while shooting 80 percent from the free-throw line.

Comes from a great program in Mercer County

"Heidi is a very good and athletic player that comes from a great program in Mercer County under the guidance of head coach Chris Sowder," Wethington said. "She is a very good shooter with a quick release and has the potential to be a great defender."

Huffman earned first-team all-area honors and second-team all-region honors during her junior season. She also earned academic all-state honors her junior and sophomore seasons.

Helped lead her team to a 46th District Championship

She helped lead Mercer County to the 46th District Championship before falling in the 12th Region Championship game last season. The Titans finished with a 28-6 record that year.

Huffman is less than 100 points away from reaching the 1,000 point club entering her senior year at Mercer County.

Huffman joins former Mercer County student and current Blue Raider Cassidy Martin at Lindsey Wilson.

Visited campus - found it beautiful, comfortable, and not to far from home

"I chose Lindsey Wilson because when I visited the campus, it was so beautiful and I could picture myself attending school there," Huffman said. "Coach Wethington was really nice and made me feel comfortable and it helps that Lindsey Wilson is not too far from home."

"We were looking for another shooter and point guard and Heidi fits our need perfectly for the position," Wethington said. "Her commitment to us makes things easier going forward as we continue to put together the pieces of the 2015-16 class."

Writer wants information on switching wet-to-dry

Comments re article 70108 WetDry Petition turned in at 315pmCT 30 Sep 2014

Ed Pipalski writes:
Just a point of order: As described in the article, the "wet vote" supporters can repeatedly attempt to bring alcohol into a dry territory by forcing a vote on the matter every three-years until finally successful in their endeavor; is the inverse not also true, once a territory goes "wet/moist" those opposed can repeatedly attempt to have alcohol permit licensing repealed and return to a dry territory? Reminds me of an old saying, "the lawless need ever be always perfect in crime; the lawman, no matter how aloof, need only be successful once to imprison the former. Twenty-five years of perfection in a life of crime versus a twenty-five year mediocre career as a lawman redeemed with a big-case crime being solved- the choice is yours young man." --Ed Pipalski
Thanks: This is a question we'd refer to a lawyer or a county clerk. (Adair County Clerk Joyce Rogers has become quite knowledgeable on the subject.) Throughout the time of the petition, signers were repeatedly heard to saw they would like to see the sale of alcohol be done under legal supervision, but if didn't work out they would be the first to sign a petition for a repeal. - EW
