ADAIR Band sweeps BoA Regional awards in class - in finals

The ADAIR Band received all Class A band awards at the Bands of America Regional Competition and scored in the Top Ten Bands to make it into the Finals of the Regionals tonight, Saturday, 20 Sep 2014, in the 7pmCT/8pmET time slot, at UL/Papa John's Stadium, 2800 S. Floyd Street, Louisville, KY in the Bands of America Regional Championship.

ADAIR won the Class A Regional Championship, Best Overall Music, Class A; Best Overall Visuals, Class A; Best Overall General Effect, and Best Overall Color Guard.

Capt. Grider will be carried home by In Support of Heroes vehicle

Next earlier story: CU President Carter asks prayers for Capt. Grider's family

Word has reached us from David Martin that Capt. Grider will be carried home to Columbia, KY in an "In Support of Heroes" vehicle. The exact time of departure was not sure but the route is known.

A procession, including units from Adair and Taylor Counties, and others will travel south on I-65 through Shepherdsville, Lebanon Junction, and Elizabethtown.

The procession will travel the Lincoln Parkway through Hodgenville, then come south of KY 206 through Campbellsville, KY and then on to Columbia. In Columbia, the procession will move slowly around the Historic Adair County Courthouse then back north to Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Entry will be by way of the front door of the funeral Home.

Many will be lining the route from Hodgenville to Columbia, and are invited to do so.

He was a native of Liberty, KY and a resident of the Russell Springs, KY at the time of his death. He was the son of Tammy Polston of Russell Springs, KY; and Paul Coleman of Liberty, KY, both of whom survive. He leaves three direct living descendants.

Sad word of the passing of Capt. Tony Grider

We have received the sad word of the passing of Capt. Tony Grider, of the Campbellsville Fire Department. Capt. Grider died in Louisville, KY, of injuries suffered in Campbellsville, KY, on August 21, 2014. Capt. Grider, a resident of Columbia, KY, was a native of Adair County.

Firemen from the Columbia/Adair County Fire Department are on their way to Louisville to bring the fallen hero home. The procession, according to Campbellsville Mayor Tony Young, will form sometime this Saturday afternoon, and will come South on 1-65 through Shepherdsville and Elizabethtown, then on the Lincoln Parkway to Hodgenville, then down Ky 210 to Campbellsville and then South on KY 55, home to Adair County.

Mayor Young said that it is hoped that those who wish to show respect to Capt. Grider would line KY 210 and KY 55 from Hodgenville to Columbia. I will have a more definite time later today. With truly great sorrow, Larry Smith, FM 99.9 and FM 92.7 radio.

Manuel Johnson, 79, Casey County, KY (1935-2014)

He was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of Hamilton County, OH, at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Abner and Allie Marie Rodgers Johnson. His wife of over 40 years, Cathie Baumgartner Johnson, survives. He was a retired maintenance worker for General Motors. Manuel was a devoted father. He enjoyed playing rook and pitching horseshoes.
