(Ad) Don't forget CM Wanted ads

Just posted at 11:03amCT: Wanted ad for metal barrels

It will take just a quick glance at CM Wanted, usually one of the most popular classifications in CM Classifieds to find a place to make a quick sale or make someone very happy to take something you don't need and you don't want paying a haul bill. Just in, there's a man who has been hearing way too many "Fogs in August" predictions, is frightened about the coming winter, and needs some barrels to build a wood burning stove. There are other needs, including a person who wants 10-20 acres of land in Adair County. There are more.

How Many Biscuits Can You Eat?

For one week I shall lay aside the frivolous job of writing about books for a matter of high urgency and of the utmost seriousness. Biscuits.

When the ancients spoke of the gods dining on ambrosia, I think I know of what they spoke. 'Twas of cornbread and biscuits -- not the salad made of marshmallows, canned fruit, and the sawdust of shredded coconut.

Happy Tale: Gabby, once abandoned, now in loving home

The little Yorkie Pug mix was left behind by early owner. At Sugarfoot Farm Rescue, it was evident that she was special. Peg Schaeffer knew the little dog deserved an extra special home. And she found one.
Next earlier Happy Tale: Happy Tail: It's a small world Posted August 24, 2014.

By Peg Schaeffer

I was contacted by a woman who had two dogs she needed to find homes for. They had belonged to her granddaughter's roommate. The roommate moved and left the dogs behind. The granddaughter had been caring for the dogs but had also moved so the dogs were left behind. The woman went to the house every day to care for the dogs that were outside tied to their dog houses.

Chuck Hinman: IJMA. Red Buhrmann, My College Roommate

Red Buhrmann, My College Roommate. Chuck recounts his days at Peru State Teachers College where he met Red Buhrmann who was a POW after being shot down over Germany in 1944.

Red Buhrmann, My College Roommate

I have written about my experience of 'leaving the nest' and the parental probation I was on when returning to college for the 1939-1940 term. The college was Peru State Teachers College at Peru, Nebraska. It was only ninety miles from where I had grown-up on the farm near tiny Liberty, Nebraska. For those not adept at math, that was over seventy years ago!

Delzell Hall, the sparkling new dormitory for men, was a couple weeks from completion. Boys who had come to the fall term expecting to stay in the new facility were 'put up' temporarily in the gym. It had the appearance of a barracks with a hundred or so cots in neat rows.
