Google Maps are Green River challenged all the way to Livermore, KY Wayne Baxter writes: The Google map makers seem to have problems with the Green River. The names "Rough River Lake" and "Rough River Dam State Park" should have given them a hint as to the name of the stream they were on. Yet Google says the water running through that dam is "Green River" and continues that mistake all the way Livermore KY, about 40 miles to the west (by land) where it runs into another, bigger Green River. - Wayne BaxterComments re article 69094 Billy Joe Fudge I now know how Columbus must have felt 2014-08-13 11:51:29 | Comments | Printable version

MIKE WATSON; C/AC not left out of geographic irresponsibility Watson cites another source of map-making crime, even on printed maps, of calling Pettit's Fork as known since pre-countyhood, Petty's Fork. Mike Watson writes: There is something to be said for the lack of accuracy of mapping in Adair County, and abroad, and Billy Joe has discovered that Columbia and the home country has not been left out of that geographic irresponsibility. Not a new phenomenon, but maps of all sorts certainly should be more accurate today than when our only reference points were "foot-to-the-sod" investigation by walking (or driving), or consulting printed maps.Comments re article 69094 Billy Joe Fudge I now know how Columbus must have felt 2014-08-13 06:51:19 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Mike Watson - History

In light of BJF revelation, BJH asks: Google Maps all washed up? Billy Joe Fudge, Your article, which states in part, "I now know how Columbus must have felt... I was just satisfying my addiction to maps and made an amazing discovery while perusing Adair County on Google maps. It seems, according to Google Maps, that Portland, Milltown and Columbia are located on and along the banks of Green River. It seems that Green River begins at the confluence of Russell Creek and Little Clifty Creek, just about a half mile North of the intersection of Freedom Church Road and Ivy Lane." -BJ HAGY BJ Hagy writes: The "Green River" I know in Adair County runs down past the Pellyton Community and on down past Neatsville on Highway 206. That "Green River" begins up around the Liberty, KY area in Casey County. (Kings Mountain, Lincoln County, pinpoints the rise of the Green better. - CM) Is there more than one river named the "Green River" in Adair County, or is Google Maps all washed-up?
