Joyce Coomer: On driving Bypass/Highway 55 South intersection One can never be too careful while driving, and should always be aware of their surroundings. There is no such thing as a dangerous road, only inattentive, negligent and scheming drivers for which responsible drivers must constantly be on the lookout. - JOYCE M. COOMER By Joyce M. Coomer Personal Commentary I have had a few near misses at this intersection, mostly people pulling out into my lane of traffic then slowing down, and have seen more than one driver sail all the way across Highway 55 from the bypass to the road leading to IMO (I don't know the correct name of that road) and also going the other direction, without stopping at the end of those roads and without even slowing down. Since I drive this road daily, to and from work, I always approach this area with caution, keeping a close watch on the intersection to see if there are any vehicles present and how they are traveling. Citizen Traffic Alert: Heads up on West 80 travel Brad Byington writes: Heads up for anyone traveling west on 80. Last Saturday we were in Gradyville and didn't notice, but last nite they had flaggers and were chipping/roughing up the surface and hauling off the chips of blacktop. We went almost to Adair/Metcalfe co. line and it was still that way. - Brad Byington 2014-08-09 11:24:49 | Comments | Printable version
George's Two-Wheeled Best Friend Because they are Christians, they forgive the thief By Sheila Johnson To the thief who stole my husband's beloved little scooter: Sometime either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning hours someone took it upon themselves to steal my husband's beloved little scooter right in front of our home. You are brave to steal right out from underneath our noses. You had no idea how much that little scooter meant to George. He had wanted one for over a year now and I refused for him to buy one. I made him save his change and any extra money we had at the end of the month until he had enough to buy it. Let us know thoughts if you've watched Walkable City Walkable City program would change Downtown for the better for all Downtown Businesses - making them shoppable destinations. Downtown Streets should not be a bypass to bypass the Bypass as it is now for so many semi's and private vehicles which are barrelling through to the bypass or another side of town. -EW Video: Walkable Cities The economic impact of Walkable Cities, and especially the improvement in viability for downtown business, is a major purpose of slowing traffic, bringing back onstreet parking, and having fewer traffic lanes on downtown streets. When making comments on Downtown Traffic, readers are welcome to mention that they have watched Jeff Speck's You Tube Video. Many of the fixes to calm traffic are simple: Broader and more pavement striping, raised and fixed planting beds, in addition to reducing the number of traffic lanes - in other words, making downtown a destination, not a bypass to bypass the bypass, as it is now for much of the unwanted through vehicles. 2014-08-09 03:01:56 | Comments | Printable version Birthdays and Anniversaries for August 9 Happy Anniversary, Dan and Marty Burris | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Harmon and Nancy Parnell (1955) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Todd and Felicia VanArsdale (1997) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Caleb Reed (2013) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Chasity Murphy (1993) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Chris Goodson | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Dawn Reliford (1990) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Jerry Lee Burton | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Landon Pennington (2012) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Linda Walker | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Marsha Bennett | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Mason Adams | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Wilburn Cheatham | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birhtday, Sandra Gosser Lawhorn (1952) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, D.
