Mary Allender named Coordinator of the Year 2009

2023-04-19 - Adair County, KY - Photo from Columbia Magazine archives by Ed Waggener 2009.
MARY ALLENDER, Adair County 911 Coordinator for the past 12 years, is the only person ever to hold the post, but she was surprised Tuesday night, April 14, 2009, when Dispatcher Jean Corbin presented her with the plaque naming her "2009 911 Coordinator of the Year, "a tribute they meant to signify "Coordinator of the Year for anywhere on the Planet Earth." Allender has been responsible for coordinating addresses, mapping the county, and continuously updating the system to allow the nation's top emergency response service to function so well.

IMPROVING EMERGENCY RESPONSE: A big aim for Allender at 911, and emergency responders, was to improve public safety by achieving 100% compliance with the program to have reflective street numbers at all residences, churches, schools, playing fields, colleges, and cemeteries. The program was initiated when she was Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce.
