Donald Lee McKinney's new cooking show

2020-09-05 - Boyle County, KY - Photo from family collection.
Donald McKinney is writing, filming and cooking his way through Pandemic 2020. With the help of his and Bobbie Lois' daughter, Laura, he is creating his own cooking shows on his Facebook page. The most recent topic is: “Lee’s Epistle of Positivity” No.19 Vol.1 - 58 Days Until The Election:

"Dear Lovers of Thick Chocolate (or Chocolate Gravy) and All Things Sweet,
Trying to follow the way Mama and Sister Juanita have instructed, I shall attempt to take you through the preparation of Thick Chocolate, a breakfast food that the McKinney’s have eaten for decades. - Your lowly chef, Donald Lee McKinney.

In his show, he demonstrates each of the ingredients and how to mix them and then how to monitor it as it thickens on the stovetop while biscuits cook in the oven.

His family traditionally calls it "Thick Chocolate", not the "blasphemous Chocolate Gravy" he's heard some call it.

Just one thing - he says the McKinney family always turns the brown sides of the biscuit up before putting on the Thick Chocolate/not gravy. Now THAT would have been blasphemous in the Marcum family, but we'll have no disagreements between the Marcums and the McKinneys - we're all different and that's what makes us America! I must say, however, it's a darn shame Adair County had to give up the McKinneys to Danville, but it is good we can keep in touch. - LW
