Kentucky Color: Big Mushroom

The Cauliflower Mushroom is a common sight for those of us who go traipsing around the timberlands of the Great Wooded South. These particular ones are dining on the decaying roots of this stump left from a harvest some 15 years ago.

Speaking of dining, according to all the sources with which I've consulted, Cauliflower Mushrooms are safe to eat and are very tasty. Since I'm not an expert on mushrooms, I highly recommend you do your own research prior to slathering (thanks Jim) on the butter or other condiments.

Just a note, even though this baby Hickory is completely surrounded, I'm sure it is not being negatively impacted by the mushroom's embrace.
