Taylor CJE Barry Smith says Hwy 55 N to be expanded

Taylor County Judge Executive Barry Smith, in an appearance on the Big Dawg Wednesday, March 13, 2019, announced that work will begin soon on Highway 55 North, Columbia Road, in Taylor County. Transportation officials are expected to add another lane, making it a two-plus-one road as was completed in Adair County two years ago. This would be one more phase of the Heartland Parkway road project. No exact start date has been given but Smith said it will be soon. - LJS

The Heartland Parkway, which will be a major connector of the LBN/Cumberland Parkway in Columbia with the Bluegrass Parkway north of Springfield, KY, has been in the works for over a decade.
